Archer is an aerospace company based in Palo Alto, California building an all-electric vertical takeoff and landing aircraft with a mission to advance the benefits of sustainable air mobility. We are designing, manufacturing, and operating an all-electric aircraft that can carry four passengers for 60 miles at speeds of up to 150 mph while producing minimal noise.

As the technical authority for Mass Properties you will report to the Head of Safety and Systems Engineering, and will define, implement, and execute the process for weight and inertia tracking and management throughout the development of our first certified aircraft. You will have Mass Properties process ownership and interface with all areas of vehicle development.
What you’ll do
Define, own, and manage our Mass Properties process for tracking, maturity, and risk management
Define and build our mass properties database supporting all aircraft and their variants
Track vehicle mass, CG, and inertia throughout the product development cycle
Work with our design teams and suppliers to collect data and manage margins, risks, and opportunities
Lead and coordinate mass reduction initiatives
Lead and coordinate Mass Properties maturity progression, including oversight of parametric and estimated mass and measurement and audit of actuals
Effectively communicate status to leadership and the rest of the team in real-time
What we are looking for
Excellent verbal and written interpersonal communication
Passion for learning and problem solving
Degree in engineering or related field
Experience with all phases of aircraft development from concept to entry into service
Experience being personally accountable for one or more Mass Properties activities on a civil aircraft certification program
Nice to have
Member of Society of Allied Weight Engineers
Familiarity with aircraft or rotorcraft certification standards (14 CFR Part 23, 25, 27, 29)
Familiarity with database design
Familiarity with software development best practices and version control
Archer is headquartered in Palo Alto, California. On-site work is preferred due to the benefit of in-person interaction for complex problem solving and collaboration, however, this position allows the possibility of remote work from any location in the U.S. with occasional company-sponsored business travel to headquarters.
