About The Role
As a Sr. Mechanical Engineer at Whisper Aero, you will function as the turbomachinery subject-matter expert. This role involves working closely with the team to identify high-level needs for propulsors, test equipment, and future projects. The successful candidate will be adept at both hands-on work and computer-based tasks, with a keenness to ask questions and build new insights.
What You’ll Do
- Spearhead the development of advanced turbomachinery components, utilizing your expertise in mechanical design and prototyping to innovate in air propulsion technology.
- Provide guidance and mentorship to the Mechanical Engineering team, fostering skill development and knowledge sharing in turbomachinery and related fields.
- Oversee and lead design review sessions, ensuring all designs meet technical specifications and align with Whisper Aero's strategic goals.
- Create and implement specialized analysis tools to enhance design evaluation and decision-making processes within the engineering team.
- Work closely with cross-functional teams to address complex engineering challenges, ensuring seamless integration of designs with overall system requirements.
- Stay updated with industry advancements, applying new insights to continually improve design methodologies and project execution
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering (or equivalent) with at least 10 years of work experience.
- At least 7 years of experience in turbomachinery and/or rotating assemblies.
- Knowledge in airfoil design, analysis, testing, and erosion protection.
- Familiarity with rotating part fatigue, lifing, and damage tolerance analysis.
- Proficiency in 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
- Proficient with GD&T per ASME Y14.
- Strong knowledge of stress analysis.
- Exceptional communication and documentation skills.
Preferred Experience
- Experience in designing electric motors, electromechanical systems, bearings, and/or seals.
- Analyzing rotordynamics and/or aeroelasticity.
- Designing for processes like injection molding, additive manufacturing, and composites.
- Advanced FEA analysis skills (non-linear, modal, automated analyses, topology optimization, etc.).
- Experience with schedule, cost, and risk management in engineering projects.
- Proficiency in PDM tools for CAD data management.
