About The Role
As a Senior Structures Engineer at Whisper Aero, you will play a pivotal role in advancing our next-generation air propulsion systems. This senior position involves leading structural design, analysis, and optimization initiatives for complex components and systems, making critical design decisions, and guiding our engineering teams toward groundbreaking achievements in air propulsion technology.
What You’ll Do
- Lead structural design reviews, providing expert feedback and guidance to design and flight sciences teams.
- Direct advanced finite element analysis and classical methods to assess strength, deflection, vibration, fatigue life, and damage tolerance.
- Oversee structural configuration, layout, and sizing for cutting-edge propulsor and platform designs.
- Spearhead testing strategies for flight projects, including study tasks and proposals.
- Serve as a key structural engineering resource throughout all project phases, offering insights and solutions.
- Innovate in the development of new materials and author sophisticated analysis tools for component sizing.
- Offer technical support for complex product integration challenges.
- Author and review detailed technical reports, setting standards for excellence and accuracy.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Aerospace, Civil Engineering, or a related field, with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- Advanced knowledge and experience in statics, solid mechanics, and free-body diagrams.
- Expertise in finite element modeling (NX/Nastran, ANSYS, Abaqus, etc.) and 3D CAD software (Solidworks, NX, CATIA V5, Fusion 360).
- Deep understanding of both metallic and composite materials manufacturing processes.
- Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Julia, VBA, or Matlab.
Preferred Experience
- Master’s degree or PhD in a relevant engineering field.
- Extensive experience in aeroelastics, structural dynamics, and rotordynamics.
- Proven track record in rotor blade structural analysis and optimization.
- Experience with HyperX, electric machines, and motors.
- Demonstrated leadership in CNC machining, composites, 3D printing, prototyping, and mechanical assembly.
- Proficient in data management and version control systems, especially Git.
- Pilot experience and/or aircraft maintenance expertise are highly advantageous.
