Head of Content 

As the Head of Content, you will play a pivotal role in shaping our company's narrative and driving growth through impactful content initiatives. As a strategic leader on the marketing team you will work cross-functionally with senior leaders, translating company GTM strategy into a measurable plan that connects owned channels, DevRel, Docs, PR/Comms, and other off-site content and developer spaces.

In summary, we are seeking a visionary leader with a solid background in content strategy, content production, business acumen, and cross-functional collaboration skills. 

Hybrid role (3-4 days a week in our NYC office located at 1900 Broadway). Reports to the VP of Marketing. 

In this role, you will: 

  • Build and scale a cross-channel content function that aligns content initiatives with Viam's overarching company goals 
  • Develop content and storytelling strategies that drive business, enhance reputation, and create meaningful connections with our brand, customers, and community
  • Provide strategic recommendations for team expansion and scalability initiatives, including working with freelancers and agencies
  • Review and establish a consistent tone/voice on Viam properties while giving flexibility to allow personal voice and character of content creators and subject experts to come through
  • Lead editorial calendar(s), content and delivery to support major launches and company moments, including but not limited to: industry thought leadership, developer campaigns, B2B customer storytelling, tentpole activations, media communications, and industry messaging
  • Drive the blog content strategy, creation, and optimization for business impact
  • Analyze content performance metrics, and use data and insights to inform and optimize content and channel strategies
  • Define and champion key pillars, personas, and narratives, helping draw connections for the team between technical content, customer-centric value propositions, and broader storytelling

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has 12+ years of experience demonstrating a successful track record in building and scaling cross-channel content functions within the startup ecosystem  
  • Is experienced navigating both B2C and B2B landscapes, and has an expertise in understanding the nuances of targeting different markets and developing tailored content strategies for each segment (developers, startups, and enterprises) 
  • Possesses a keen understanding of how content can drive business objectives and be able to align content initiatives with overarching company goals
  • Can inspire and lead a team of content creators, guiding them towards achieving collective goals
  • Is proficient with different media formats (podcast, short form and long form video, and/or running a creative studio)
  • Holds strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to produce content that is engaging, informative, and on brand
  • Enjoys evaluating data and analytics to measure the performance of efforts and optimize
  • Proven project management and production management skills
  • Enjoys cross-functional collaboration, working with subject matter experts, and leading and mentoring teammates
  • Gets excited to craft and guide storylines to drive technical community and customer engagement 
  • Presents information in a clear, concise and engaging manner

The starting salary for this role is between $150,000-190,000/year. Your exact offer will vary based on a number of factors including experience level, skillset, market location, and balancing internal equity relative to peers at the company. We recognize that the person we hire may be less experienced, or more senior, than this job description as posted. In these situations, the updated salary range will be communicated with you as a candidate.
