About the Business Performance Team

The Business Performance team sits under the FP&A (Financial Planning and Analysis) team. Financial Planning and Analysis is a highly visible team who use both quantitative and qualitative analysis to plan and evaluate Thumbtack’s financial performance against company goals. 

FP&A transforms the Thumbtack strategy and vision into a financial plan using critical analysis, planning and modeling. It forecasts revenue, expenses and profitability, sets annual financial targets and is critical to Thumbtack’s success.

About the Role

As a Business Performance team member, you’ll drive insights and action across the breadth of the business. You’ll be a steward of key company metrics and dashboards, owning the full cycle of reporting from infrastructure to data storytelling. You’ll partner with our leadership team to develop company strategy and goals, share updates with the Board, and work with teams across the business to drive actionable insights and business impact.

Responsibilities

  • Design and build key company data tables, dashboards, and insights tools that power decisions across the company, and evolve them as our product and business change.
  • Answer key questions with analysis, and dive deep to reveal insightful and actionable insights that are critical to Thumbtack’s strategy.
  • Measure business impact, and draw the connection between what teams are building and how it impacts company metrics.
  • Understand the breadth of the business (vs. focusing on one specific area) and partner with people across the company, including Product, Engineering, Marketing, Operations, Finance, and the leadership team.
  • Support the power that business performance has to enable the company to reach its full potential, you’ll contribute to our team and company data culture through peer collaboration, training, coaching, and more. 

Must-Have Qualifications

  • 2+ years of experience in a highly analytical role, e.g. technology, finance, or consulting
  • Proficiency using SQL to analyze large data sets and excellent excel / google sheets skills
  • Exemplary analytical problem-solving skills, including strong business judgment and the ability to identify and synthesize insights from analysis
  • Ability to work with company executives to understand the company’s business needs and strategy
  • Strong communicator, attentive listener, and compelling explainer

Nice-to-Have Qualifications

  • BA/BS degree, preferably in Economics, Business, Math, Statistics, or Computer Science
