Electrical Engineer (contract)
Starfish Neuroscience is an early-stage startup advancing the science and engineering of brain interfaces. Basic and clinical neuroscience has shown how targeted modulation of brain activity patterns can create precise changes in physiology, affect, or cognition. We see that this ability can be harnessed to treat a wide range of conditions, from movement disorders to mood disorders and from poor sleep to chronic pain. Our mission is to build the foundational technology for safe, flexible, and reliable neuromodulation and to deploy that technology as precision therapies, easily available to the people who need them.
We are seeking an experienced contract electrical engineer to work with us either remotely or at our Bellevue, WA location.
Responsible for:
- Interfacing with diverse team members to understand and develop requirements and design specifications for custom circuits
- Analog and digital PCB design, including CAD, component selection, sourcing, verification, fabrication, testing and validation
- Design of embedded systems, especially low-power devices
- Inductive coil design and power transfer optimization for embedded devices
- Designing test infrastructure including hardware fixtures and test software
Qualifications:
- 5+ years of experience designing and validating circuits and embedded systems
- Development experience in KiCad (preferred) or Altium, with willingness to learn KiCad
- Strong signal processing background (analog and digital filter design; detection and estimation; understanding of noise sources)
- Experience with SPICE circuit modeling
- Strong communication skills
Nice-to-haves:
- Experience with firmware development, and/or a programming background (ideally Python, C, C++ )
- Data analysis and visualization experience
- Experience with Verilog and FPGA programming
- Experience with version control (ideally git)
- Experience with FEM modeling (e.g. COMSOL)
