POSITION: Freelance Video Producer for Military Times

POSITION LOCATION : Arlington, VA (Washington, D.C. area)

SMG is seeking a multimedia journalist for one of its brands, Military Times, to produce segments, starting immediately. We seek a confident and capable one-person-band who can pitch a video story, arrange and film the necessary interview(s) and B-roll, edit together a package, and deliver an on-camera standup. This is a project-based gig – fees are for the submission of finished products.

Candidate needs to be able to:

  • Understand and deliver the fundamentals of a news story
  • Shoot professional video on your own gear
  • Gather supporting visuals as needed
  • Execute a standup to camera
  • Edit a package in Adobe Premiere

We’re looking for someone with on-camera experience who can find, shoot, write and edit their own packages, and submit clean, accurate stories. Experience in broadcast news is a good basis. We cover the military and defense spaces and have a military / veteran audience, so knowledge of that space is a bonus.

Washington D.C.-area candidates preferred.

Absolute must: You MUST have journalism experience. Camera professionals with slick reels but no news stories will not be considered.

We understand this is a tall order, but for the right candidate, this could be a long-term engagement.
