Oyster is on a mission to create a more equal world by making it possible for companies everywhere to hire people anywhere.

In 2021, we have grown rapidly, raising over $70 million in both Series A and Series B rounds and increasing our team size by nearly 10x. And we’re just getting started. As a fully distributed startup, we’ve built an incredibly strong leadership team and employee base across 47 countries (and counting!). We embrace asynchronous communication and collaborative work. We live on our platform, and we’re passionate about improving our product every day.

Hiring people internationally is complicated – engineering, legal, finance, operations, and HR processes all interact to make it happen. We’d like to find people who think this is as interesting a challenge as we do.

The Role 👩‍💻

Location: To create the best experience for our new hire (you?!) this role does require that you are based within -8 / +10 UTC

While this position is posted in a specific location, all of Oyster’s positions are fully remote and you can work from home. Forever.



  • Maintain professional knowledge of all payroll legislative changes
  • Correspondence w/ local accountants
  • Work closely with HR team members to manage enhancements to processes and legislation
  • Receive approval from upper management for payments when needed
  • Gather information on global payroll
  • Formatting of payroll file upload to Netsuite
  • Maintaining payroll procedures
  • Ensure 100% of team members are paid timely!
  • Conducting pre-payroll audits and checks

Qualifications 📜

  • Great communications and presentation skills.
  • Thorough understanding of global payroll.
  • Intermediate proficiency with a strong emphasis on Microsoft Excel/Google sheet. 
  • Adherence to tight deadlines and quick turnaround for payroll deliverables. 
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from management, vendors, and associates. 
  • Strong organizational skills and the ability to develop and maintain an organized structure. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively in a distributed environment where adaptability is imperative. 
  • Accurate with a strong attention to detail. 
  • Strong written and oral communication skills. 
  • Previous experience using NetSuite is a plus.
