Who we are at Osmo:

Osmo is a digital olfaction company, on a mission to give computers a sense of smell to improve the health and wellbeing of human life. Why? Our sense of smell both enriches and saves lives, and has a deep and direct connection to our emotions and memory. Vision and hearing have been digitized, but not scent. It’s time we solve this. We’re bringing an unprecedented combination of software, data, hardware and capital to the historic challenge of giving computers a sense of smell.

We believe in the power of automation and carefully applied AI/ML to solve problems that are beyond what the unaided human mind can tackle on its own. In the first phase of our development, we are using our map of odor along with cutting-edge generative AI to create the next generation of aroma molecules (e.g., the ingredients in the fragrances we wear and the products we use). We're a hybrid company with a laboratory and center-of-mass in Somerville, MA and New York, NY.

Osmo is hiring a Mechatronics Engineer to join our dynamic team, focusing on sensor development and lab automation. This role is ideal for a passionate tinkerer with experience in multi-sensor platforms, robotics, circuit board design and automation control systems.

Key Responsibilities:

  1. Design and Development: Design and develop complex mechatronic systems, particularly in lab automation and robotic applications.
  2. Sensor Integration: Implement and optimize various sensors (like temperature, pressure, optical, chemical) into the system for precise measurements and control.
  3. Automation Control Systems: Develop and program automation control systems, including PLCs, microcontrollers, and other control devices.
  4. Robotics Integration: Integrate and program robotic systems for automated tasks within the laboratory setting.
  5. Troubleshooting: Diagnose and resolve complex system issues, ensuring high reliability and performance of the systems.
  6. Project Management: Oversee project timelines, resources, and deliverables to ensure successful project completion.
  7. Circuit Board Design: Design and develop custom circuit boards to meet the specific requirements of our automation systems.
  8. Collaboration and Teamwork: Work closely with cross-functional teams, including software engineers, product managers, and other stakeholders, to deliver high-quality solutions.
  9. Research and Development: Stay abreast of the latest advancements in mechatronics, lab automation, and robotics to incorporate cutting-edge technologies into our products.
  10. Documentation and Reporting: Prepare comprehensive documentation and reports on system design, development processes, and system performance analysis.

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Mechatronics Engineering, Robotics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
  • 5 years of experience in mechatronics engineering, with a focus on lab automation, robotics, and systems integration.
  • Proficient in circuit board design and embedded systems.
  • Strong experience in programming automation control systems.
  • Demonstrated experience in sensor integration and application.
  • Knowledge of robotic systems and their programming.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and project management skills.
