About the Role:

This position will report to the Tax Director and will play an integral part in building Opendoor’s India Tax function. As Senior Tax Manager, you will play a pivotal role in leading our organization's local tax strategy, focusing on compliance, planning, and optimization across India. Your expertise will guide the establishment of tax policies, best practices, and developing tax strategy, ensuring our operations are both compliant and financially efficient.

The ideal candidate should be a team leader who can drive programs across various internal cross functional teams and external partners. You will display a balance of hard and soft skills, including the ability to respond and adapt quickly to changing business needs.  The role will require the ideal candidate to wear several different hats, and as such, is best suited for a person comfortable working in fast-paced and dynamic environments where strong business communication skills are critical to success. 

In this role, you will:

  • Spearhead the development and implementation of a comprehensive tax strategy for the India tax function, encompassing compliance, planning, and advisory aspects to support the organization's objectives
  • Proven ability to navigate and thrive in a dynamic environment where change and Demonstrate adaptability to influence were required to drive growth and organizational changes, driving efficiency .and growth
  • Lead the creation and implementation of tax policies, ensuring they align with regulatory requirements and industry best practices while supporting business goals
  • Work closely with business partners within various departments, including finance, legal, people and operations, to provide tax-related insights and support decision-making processes
  • Ensure adherence to local tax laws and regulations, overseeing the preparation and filing of all required tax documents and returns accurately and timely
  • Proactively identify, evaluate, and mitigate tax risks, implementing robust controls and strategies to minimize exposure
  • Act as the primary contact for tax authorities, external auditors, and consultants on tax matters, building and maintaining strong professional relationships
  • Stay up-to-date with changes in local tax laws and regulations, providing insights and recommendations to adapt the company's tax strategies accordingly to reduce risk or provide operational savings

We’re looking for a teammate who has:

  • A minimum of 12 years of related experience in withtax experience with a deep understanding of India tax law
  • B.S. degree; CA or equivalent LLM required
  • Possesses experience in either startup or established enterprise environments, coupled with over 5 years of Big 4 or public accounting experience in a tax-related management position.
  • Strong technical expertise in and understanding of international tax legislation
  • Experience working directly with governmental agencies to resolve tax issues
  • Self-starter, self-motivated, able to work independently, prioritize effectively, and perform multiple tasks under minimal supervision
  • Ability to work in a team environment and willingness to "roll up your sleeves"
  • High level of ethics and integrity

This position can be located in Hyderabad or Chennai.
