🙌 The Role
Lead Data Engineer at Oodle Car Finance.
We are looking for an eager and experienced Data Engineering Manager with extensive data architecture and warehouse skills to lead and inspire our Data Engineering team. As a finance lender, data is central to our operations and growth. The Data Engineering team is crucial to the success of our mission in ensuring data is modelled, ingested, transformed and made available across the organisation.
You’ll need to be confident towards leading and developing your engineering team and be effective at communicating proposals to technical and non-technical stakeholders across the organisation. You will have the opportunity to own and develop our Data Vault Snowflake based Warehouse and Customer Data Platforms.
🟢The Team
The Data Engineering team is responsible for all aspects of data management at Oodle, developing and refining cloud native warehouse, interfaces from a variety of internal and external sources.
The data engineering team is a central team that works closely with your peer data teams in analytics and reporting, data science and the wider business to understand and service their data needs, ensuring a single source of truth is maintained. The team operates with a collaborative, autonomous and flat structure.
What you’ll be doing:

- Leading our team of Data Engineers in creating the best solutions and developing their skills through direct line management and coaching.
- Owning Oodle’s data engineering strategy to solve our current and future challenges and opportunities through coherent policies and plans.
- Use your modelling experience to act as a data architect to define solutions within our Data Vault implementation.
- Work alongside data science, credit risk and analytics teams to identify their data needs and advise reliable and efficient solutions to service these needs.
- Own our Rudderstack based Customer Data Platform which drives behavioural data collection and activation for Customer 360 data views for Marketing, Communications and Product
- Ensuring our code is delivered using CI/CD with test automation and we have a robust observability implementation.
- Ensure data platform costs are managed within budget.
- Manage relationships with suppliers such as Snowflake, FiveTran, dbt and many others.
What you’ll need:
- Demonstrable experience in leading a data engineering team including coaching and mentoring Data Engineers
- Hands-on experience working with cloud-based data warehousing technologies such as Snowflake, Redshift or Databricks, along with excellent SQL skills.
- Substantial experience in all data management and Data Ops processes and tools (ingestion, pipelines, aggregation, CI/CD)
- Ability to prioritise complex workloads in a rapidly evolving environment and manage project work alongside more ad-hoc demands.
- Comprehensive and current knowledge of data engineering models and ecosystems.
- Experience in architecting and modelling data.
- Bonus if you have experience with Data Vault 2.0 architecture.
- Analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail
- High levels of energy, enthusiasm, and passion to acquire new skills and succeed in a dynamic environment.
- Experience in using the following technologies or similar:
- dbt
- Snowflake
- Airflow
- FiveTran
- Infrastructure-as-code such as Terraform
Desirable Experience:
- FinTech/Finance experience
