In this role, as a part of the product engineering team, you will lead High Volume Manufacturing (HVM) testing and develop novel wafer and package level testing strategies of Lightmatter’s Silicon Photonics products. You will define the HVM testing strategy and roadmap while collaborating with OSAT and test vendors. You will support customer deployments and address related technical issues.
Responsibilities
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including design, architecture, manufacturing, and reliability engineers, to align on test requirements, coverage, and timelines.
- Develop, document, and implement robust test strategies covering the optical, electrical, and thermal aspects of silicon photonic devices.
- Drive the execution of test plans across R&D and production, ensuring comprehensive coverage of all photonic device performance metrics.
- Qualify new test equipment, including optical probes, power meters, and spectrum analyzers, in collaboration with internal teams and equipment vendors.
- Lead Silicon Photonics characterization and manufacturing test data analysis to implement production pass/fail screen and improve yield and quality.
- Implement continuous improvement processes and release test programs to improve test yield and system-level DPPM.
- Collaborate with quality, foundry, and technology teams to implement failure analysis processes and corrective action plans based on test results.
- Anticipate project risks and implement mitigation strategies to ensure successful project execution.
- Lead efforts to develop and maintain automated test systems for SiPh products to ensure scalability and precision in high-volume testing environments while engaging with OSATs.
- Collaborate with customers and systems team to define and deploy package and SLT test requirements for production.
- Stay current on advancements in silicon photonics testing methodologies, equipment, and industry standards.
- Lead and mentor junior engineers.
Requirements:
- Master's Degree in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
- 10+ years of proven experience in silicon photonics test development, including wafer, package, and system-level test experience.
- Strong understanding of the device physics and operation of silicon photonics devices and circuits.
- Deep understanding of silicon photonics and relevant testing techniques (e.g., optical alignment, wavelength tuning, parametric performance/defect screening, signal integrity).
- Hands on lab experience in optoelectronic link testing of photonics chips, components, and devices.
- Strong knowledge of DFT principles with experience integrating DFT rules into designs to improve test efficiency and coverage.
- Experience working with test equipment, including lasers, VNA, switches, spectrum analyzers, high speed oscilloscopes (DCA), BERT, source-meter units, OBR etc.
- Experience managing vendor relationships for the sourcing and qualifying of critical test equipment and components.
- Proficiency in Python for test automation.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills to identify and solve issues during the testing process.
- Ability to convey complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Ph.D in Photonics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
- Product and Test engineering leadership experience leading efforts from NPI to mass production of silicon photonics-based products.
- System-level validation experience of silicon photonics products.
- Experience with photonic design tools like Ansys Lumerical (FDTD, Interconnect), COMSOL, and SI tools like ADS/LTspice.
