The Director, Science Communications, Americas will report to the VP, Policy Communications and be responsible for overseeing JUUL Labs’ science communications strategy, including proactive communication of JUUL-funded research across all external and internal stakeholders.  The Director, Science Communications, Americas will also play a central role in liaising between the Scientific Affairs, Legal, Strategic Finance, and Government Affairs teams, helping those groups to develop proactive and reactive scientific communications for a range of audiences from regulators, to key opinion leaders, to elected officials.  

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and execute strategic communications plans on all science and research initiatives; raise JUUL’s profile as a company committed to improving the public health and combatting underage use of nicotine products; the remit includes Scientific Communications Strategy development as part of the Sci Affairs strategy, and management of scientific communications focused activities
  • Develop, socialize, and ensure uniform delivery of appropriate science messaging to all relevant stakeholders and audiences, providing quality control for all communications materials, as well as overseeing communications strategy support for key research announcements and initiatives
  • Organize coordinated, fact-based communications response to third party research and science impacting JUUL Labs; ensure consistent and compliant messaging across all stakeholder groups
  • Partner expertly with key internal stakeholders, including Scientific Affairs and Government Affairs
  • Support internal communications initiatives that advance JUUL Labs public health and science narratives
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key US healthcare reporters; engage with media to ensure JUUL’s point of view is prominent in coverage of key issues
  • Assist Scientific Affairs team in cultivating and maintaining key opinion leader relationships
  • Play a critical role in developing and executing medical and industry congress strategy
  • Attend medical and industry conferences in support of Scientific Affairs team
  • Help organize and drive the internal communication activities at congresses
  • Work with international communications colleagues and other relevant stakeholders to coordinate science communications strategy and support international business initiatives, including country launches and regulatory milestones
  • Demonstrate leadership as a senior member of JUUL’s global communications team

  • Expertly analyze, understand and translate complex scientific issues and research findings into accessible communications for both consumer and scientific community audience, identifying the elements most likely to resonate with a broad audience while also effectively communicating scientific advances and relevance
  • Engage researchers and clinicians, conducting interviews and follow-up as necessary, and developing and maintaining relationships in order to stay abreast of research and news developments, both inside and outside of the company  
  • Operate at a highly strategic level in creating international science communications plans and strategies
  • Write authoritatively, artfully and persuasively for audiences at the highest level of business and government; able to meet the most exacting editorial standards while flexing to different styles
  • Strong initiative to create powerful pieces of content; including ability to oversee production of videos, infographics and other designed pieces of content
  • Demonstrate strong media relations skills; proven ability to navigate high-profile and contested issues
  • Ability to anticipate public events that can be used to advance institutional objectives
  • Staff senior executives for maximum effectiveness in science communications campaigns
  • Display executive presence with proven ability to instill confidence and earn credibility as an advisor and deliverer
  • Quickly establish credibility and build productive relationships across the organization
  • Possess strong project management skills



  • Preferred:
    • 8-10 years experience in healthcare and/or biopharmaceuticals industries
    • Strong scientific background necessary. MPH, MD, PhD, Pharmacy degree a plus
