To ensure success as the Health and Wellness Coach, you will report to the Director of Student Wellness. Ingenuity Prep’s Health and Wellness Educator is responsible for developing and delivering a comprehensive health/ wellness education program that promotes middle school students' physical, mental, and social well-being. 

This role involves designing an age-appropriate curriculum, promoting healthy habits,  delivering engaging lessons, and fostering a positive and inclusive environment. The School Health and Wellness Educator collaborates with school staff, parents, and community resources to support students in making informed decisions about their health and developing lifelong healthy habits.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

The core responsibilities of the Health and Wellness coach role at Ingenuity Prep include:

Curriculum Development & Instruction

  • Develop a dynamic and comprehensive wellness curriculum for kindergarten through eighth-grade students.
  • Plan and deliver engaging and interactive lessons on nutrition, physical activity, mental health, substance abuse prevention, and reproductive health.
  • Establish and maintain a positive, safe, and inclusive classroom environment by utilizing a variety of teaching methods to accommodate varying learning styles.

Promotion of Healthy Behaviors:

  • Implement programs and initiatives that promote healthy behaviors, including nutrition education, fitness challenges, and wellness campaigns.
  • Incorporate fitness components into the wellness curriculum to promote a healthy lifestyle in and outside the classroom.
  • Identify students needing additional support and collaborate with school counselors or other professionals to address their needs.
  • Facilitate the coordination of resources and activities to support staff wellness and mindfulness initiatives throughout the school year 

Family and Community Involvement

  • Utilize community resources to enhance wellness programming and promote community engagement.
  • Communicate regularly with parents about the wellness program and provide resources for extending wellness practices at home.
  • Work closely with teachers, school staff, and parents to address the holistic needs of students

Health Education Programs 

  • Collaborate with the school's student support team to coordinate tier 1 interventions that address individual and broader wellness needs.
  • Develop and conduct health education workshops for students, addressing stress management, healthy coping mechanisms, and building resilience.
  • Implement peer support programs to create a supportive environment where students can connect and support each other.
  • Keep detailed records of interventions and outcomes for students; provide reports on the effectiveness of tier 1 interventions and make recommendations for improvements.

  • Have the desire to engage with students, families, and school community in fun and interactive ways
  • Can work effectively with multiple stakeholders, including Ingenuity Prep’s families; you consistently treat others with dignity and respect
  • You are flexible and persistent; you have a strong ability to identify and solve challenging problems. 
  • Ability to express facts and ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing
  • Excellent skills in planning, organization, and leadership; ability to prioritize tasks and responsibilities
  • You are meticulously detail-oriented, are driven to meet deadlines, and have used that skill set to plan or support the planning of events 
  • You will thrive in a fast-paced, high-performing, but sometimes unpredictable environment
  • You have superior initiative - you take instruction well, but do not wait for it
  • You prioritize your own continuous learning and desire feedback 
  • You are proficient with MS Excel, MS Word, and MS PowerPoint or Google Suite alternatives
