Your Role
We’re looking for a Senior Engineering Director to lead our Hardware team that’s building the next generation of Hudl’s software-enabled cameras and wearables. Engineering Directors are able to guide engineering organizations to drive business outcomes in the face of substantial organizational, strategic and technical challenges and ambiguity. They are fully accountable for the hardware engineering function at Hudl. You’ll report to the VP of Engineering.
As a Senior Engineering Director, you’ll:
- Coach Engineers and Engineering Managers. You’ll lead a global team of approximately 30 Engineers (hardware, firmware and software), including three direct reports. You’ll be responsible for hiring a diverse team, maintaining a healthy culture, and growing engineering leaders and key contributors.
- Solve problems collaboratively. You’ll work with product squads and rely on their collective intelligence in problem-solving to deliver the best solutions. By partnering and collaborating with other leaders across the company, you’ll help identify, evaluate and execute on opportunities to make our products more deeply integrated.
- Drive operational excellence. Our internal operations team (suppliers/logistics) will work with you to ensure efficient manufacturing processes and high-quality product delivery. Your team will use innovative tactics in hardware design, focusing on improving performance, reliability, cost efficiency and user experience.
- Deliver great user value. You will help our customers do something they love. This is an exciting position for any passionate maker and technologist.
Our priority is to hire someone for this role who lives near our office in Lincoln, Nebraska, but we're also open to remote candidates in Central or East Coast time zones in the following states: AL, FL, GA, IL, IN, IA, KS, KY, LA, MA, MI, MN, MO, NH, NC, OH, OK, PA, SC, SD, TN, TX, VA, or WI. We’re not considering relocation at this time.
Must-Haves
- Experience building complex hardware solutions. You have a minimum of 15 years of industry experience in hardware engineering and product development, with experience delivering new products through manufacturing partners and sustaining manufactured products through the product lifecycle. Your proven track record of successfully delivering complex hardware products from concept to market speaks for itself.
- Formal education. You’ve received a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, computer engineering, or a related field. Comparable experience may apply.
- Cross-functional relationship builder. You understand the importance of building strong partnerships with Product, Sales, Marketing, Support and other departments.
- Formal leadership experience. You have directly managed a team of at least a dozen Engineers. You care deeply about your team and are experienced in developing, mentoring and serving them.
- Domain knowledge. You’ve worked on IoT devices (similar to wearable technology and camera systems).
- Subject matter expertise. You have a very strong understanding of electronics design, firmware development and manufacturing processes.
Nice-to-Haves
- Multi-level leadership. You’ve led other managers and had a level of indirect reports.
- Applicable industry background. You’ve worked within sports technology or another industry that’s transferable. Bonus points if you have knowledge of video streaming technologies and protocols, and/or have familiarity with data analytics and machine learning applications in sports.
- Consumer electronics expertise. You’ve built wearable technology and/or camera systems, and understand applicable regulatory compliance (FCC, CE, etc.) for consumer electronics.
- Global scale. You’ve created products for customers in multiple regions.

Compensation
The base salary range for this role is displayed below, and may be eligible for bonuses which are offered at Hudl's sole discretion. Where a candidate is placed within this base salary range is determined by experience, skills, education and training required for the job as well as our internal pay equity. Discretionary bonuses, if awarded, may include annual targets based on company performance and a long-term incentive award.
