Role Overview 

Make your mark on Jewish student life by joining Brown RISD Hillel (BRH)as the Springboard Fellow. You will build one on one relationships with diverse networks of students, plan and execute innovative events that reflect students’ passions, and inspire students to make a commitment to Jewish life. 

Brown RISD Hillel, a leading Hillel in the global network, is seeking an emerging Jewish professional with contagious passion, entrepreneurial energy, and strong leadership and networking skills. The Springboard Fellow will collaborate with students to innovate, grow, and experiment with new models of Jewish community-building and meaning-making. This an opportunity to transform Jewish life on campus alongside a talented and motivated team and an incredible student body. 

You'll wake up each day (or at least most) and be genuinely excited and enthusiastic about creating an inviting place that inspires students to explore, experience, and create vibrant Jewish lives. This is so much more than your average 9-to-5. 

About Brown RISD Hillel 

Brown RISD Hillel serves as the gateway to Jewish life at Brown University and Rhode Island School of Design (RISD). More than a center for Jewish programming and ritual, Hillel is an integral part of the social, cultural, educational, and political life for students. Brown RISD Hillel is situated in the historic College Hill neighborhood of Providence, R.I., a cool urban center for creative entrepreneurs, recent grads, and young families. 45 minutes from Boston and just a short drive to beautiful New England beaches, Providence is a desirable emerging city, hosting a diverse and vibrant Jewish community with kosher restaurants and multiple synagogues. 

About The Springboard Fellowship

The Springboard Fellowship is a paid, two-year fellowship that brings recent college grads with raw talent, passion, and skills needed to reimagine and redesign Jewish student life to college campuses across North America. 

Trained in Relationship-Based Engagement, Human-Centered Design and other entrepreneurial frameworks, you will be exposed to the most successful initiatives from across the Hillel movement. Fellows will work with students to imagine, create, and refine experiences for Jewish life that dramatically impact student engagement, efficiently and strategically apply and scale successful initiatives from across the movement, and give birth to cutting-edge ideas that have the potential to transform how Hillel and creates inclusive spaces for #AllKindsOfJewish. 

We’re looking for people who embrace challenges, take risks, fail, and learn from the past, while maintaining their passion and sense of humor. Extensive Jewish education is not necessary — just an interest in creating a vibrant Jewish community, a commitment to learning, and the desire to make a difference in the lives of students. 

GOALS: 

  • Actively contribute to shaping Brown RISD Hillel by engaging 180 students a year with a focus on students who are not already connected to Hillel and Jewish life. ● Support students in using Hillel as a platform for their unique passions and interests.
  • Build a first-year community that facilitates connection to Jewish life. Identify opportunities for first-year students to engage with Hillel and support students as they begin their college journeys. 
  • Establish a presence on campus and be accessible and responsive to students’ needs, ideas, and passions. 

WHAT YOU’LL DO: 

  • Collaborate with students to plan events that reflect their interests and engage diverse networks such as: Clothing Swap, Senior Wine Tasting, Hillel Formal, Sunset Beach Trip … etc! 
  • Energize the Shabbat experience and vibe at BRH with your presence and creative thinking. 
  • Recruit for Alternative Break and Birthright Israel trips.
  • Plan BRH’s annual “Welcome Week” in August and “Welcome Back Week” in January to excite students about the semester and put BRH on their radar as a platform to make big ideas happen. 
  • Make a transformative impact on Jewish life at Brown and RISD.

What You’ll Bring to the Job 

  • 0-3 years professional work experience 
  • Bachelor's degree 
  • This is an in-person role located in Providence, RI; remote work is not available for this position 
  • Sense of humor! 
  • Strong entrepreneurial spirit. Things may not always go according to plan and you must be willing to take risks and learn your wins as well as your losses. 
  • Confidence initiating and running programs, and comfort asking questions. 
  • Ability to collaborate across teams both inside and outside of Hillel.
  • Willingness to admit what you don’t know, and excitement to learn in those areas.
  • Creative problem-solving. 
  • Excitement to continue developing your own relationship to Judaism.

What You’ll Receive 

  • Competitive salary in the nonprofit marketplace. The salary range for this role is $44,000 - $46,000 in year one of the Fellowship, and the salary range is $46,500- $48,500 in year two of the Fellowship.

  • $3,200 in professional development funds from the Springboard Fellowship to utilize over the course of two years.

  • A network of terrific colleagues from across the Hillel movement.
