Role Overview 

The AD of Development is responsible for contributing to the management, implementation, and achievement of Texas Hillel’s fundraising initiatives toward a nearly $2 million annual goal. This is a role focused on strategy and systems, development staff supervision, and fundraising. This professional will build partnerships with colleagues in university advancement, institutional funders, and community foundations, and will have access to a supportive network of Hillel professionals across the country through Hillel International.  Ideal candidates are professionals with 3+ years development experience. The Assistant Director for Development serves as an integral member of our senior team, and reports to the Executive Director of Texas Hillel.

What You’ll Do 

  • Partner with Executive Director on annual campaign
  • Work with staff and the Board of Directors Development Committee to create a development plan to meet annual fundraising goals and track progress throughout the year
  • Supervise Family & Alumni Relations Development Manager and part-time Marketing and Communications Manager, and oversee student interns in development and marketing
  • Identify, steward, and directly solicit a portfolio of donors and prospects who contribute up to $1,000 annually
  • Support solicitation efforts for the Executive Director, Board members, and other key lay leaders
  • Coordinate donor meetings and events
  • Work with the development team to assure timely gift acknowledgement, database management, and review of donor tracking system
  • Write grant applications and reports, and manage grant timelines
  • Travel for events and meetings with donors locally and nationally

On a Day-to-Day Basis You Will:

  • Track and analyze fundraising data to build strategies that both increase donor numbers and revenue
  • Manage follow-up with donors and prospects as necessary
  • Monitor development expenses with Operations Manager
  • Supervise maintenance of Little Green Light (LGL) donor database
  • Provide timely data and reports to the Executive Director and Board leaders to ensure that development campaigns proceed efficiently

  • Sound strategic and organizational thinking and a collaborative approach to fundraising. 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills . 
  • Proficiency with CRM software (donor management software, such as Little Green Light or Salesforce) and enthusiasm to explore new platforms.
  • Passion for Hillel’s mission to enrich the lives of Jewish students so that they may enrich the Jewish people and the world. 
  • A commitment to Jewish pluralism. 

Qualifications 

  • 3+ years of relevant professional experience, including at least two years in a development role.
  • Management and supervisory experience.
  • Bachelor's degree required, advanced degree a plus.
  • Experience using data to drive performance. 
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • Strong verbal and written communications skills. Grant writing experience preferred.
  • Ability to work autonomously and manage multiple projects. 

What You’ll Receive 

  • The salary range for this role is $68,000-75,000, based on experience.

Hillel San Antonio serves 12 campuses throughout the city, with Trinity University and University of Texas at San Antonio as its main sites. Hillel San Antonio currently serves over 200 Jewish students. Many students participate in the University of Texas CAP program, spending one year on UTSA’s campus, prior to transferring to UT Austin.
