Role Overview

As the Development Specialist, you will make your mark on Jewish life at ASU by working hand in hand with the Executive Director and other organizational leaders on resource and business development. 

Using a data-driven approach to all of our work, you will support the day-to-day development operations, including database management, gift processing, donor stewardship, reporting, donor/funder prospecting, and volunteer coordination. You will also be responsible for the stewardship and solicitation of a segment of donors in the $360-999 tier.

This role involves administration, coordination, and relationship management.  In addition to the daily operations of the development team, you will be responsible for various development special projects throughout the year, including promotional publications, phonathons, and grants management.

What You’ll Do

Donor Cultivation & Solicitation

  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with a segment of donors at the $360-999  tier.
  • Oversee implementation of donor stewardship plan to ensure continued engagement and support.
  • Support the Executive Director with moves management for major, new, and recaptured donors.
  • Support the Board’s Development Committee.
  • Support parent & alumni engagement strategies
  • Provide staffing support (e.g., scheduling, development of materials, taking minutes) for Board of Directors and various other lay leader groups.

Grant and Foundation Management

  • Research new grants
  • Oversee grants management process including applications and reports including:
    • Empowering and supporting engagement staff to write their own project grant proposals. 
    • Supporting engagement staff in submitting timely and accurate reports.
    • Supporting general operational and special projects grant proposal writing and reporting.
    • Ensuring proper budget management & reporting

Special Events

  • Collaborate with staff, contractors, and volunteer leaders to plan, execute, and document fundraising events, including donor appreciation events, annual gala, and community outreach activities.
  • Provide support in logistics, coordination, and follow-up for fundraising events.

Database Management and Reporting

  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date donor and gift records in the organization's database, Little Green Light.
  • Generate reports and analyze data to assess fundraising progress and identify opportunities for improvement.
  • Prepare regular reports for leadership and the board of directors on fundraising progress.

Communication and Outreach

  • Develop written content, design & distribute monthly parent & alumni newsletters
  • Create compelling development materials, including newsletters, direct mail packages, digital appeals, and impact reports.
  • Serve as contact for all board of director communications 
  • Support social media and online campaigns to raise awareness and engage supporters.
  • Drafting development-related materials as needed, including acknowledgments, web pages, appeal emails, grant proposals, one-pagers, marketing materials, and other communications.
  • Stay up to date on our programming and impact.

Auxiliary Support

  • Administrative aspects of development, including scheduling meetings and appointments.
  • Assisting the Executive Director in energizing and coordinating the Board of Directors' fundraising efforts.
  • Other development duties & projects as assigned.

What You'll Bring to the Job 

  • 0-2 years of experience in related roles and responsibilities including business development, PR, Marketing, Communications, nonprofit management
  • Familiarity with a variety of software (e.g. Little Green Light or other CRM, Mailchimp or similar, Microsoft Excel, Canva)  and/or a proven ability to learn quickly
  • An eagerness to learn new systems and strategies and to contribute your ideas too
  • A passion for supporting Hillel at ASU’s mission of enriching the lives of Jewish students at ASU and growing the next generation of Jewish leaders.
  • A contagious personality and a desire to deepen the relationship between Hillel and donors, parents, and alumni. 
  • A can-do attitude and ability to take risks, learn from both your wins and losses, and pivot when plans need to change with short notice
  • Ability to collaborate across teams both inside and outside of Hillel.
  • Bachelor’s degree required
