Position Summary

Effectual Cloud Communication Consultants are members of the Public Sector Program Management team responsible for ensuring that customer-facing projects are delivered with exceptional customer satisfaction and technical excellence. Effectual Cloud Communication Consultants are "Brand Ambassadors" and are expected to stay current on leading practices to deliver high-quality, well-conceived solutions to customers.

A Glimpse into the Daily Routine of a Cloud Communications Consultant

The Cloud Communications Consultant will serve a critical role supporting the government cloud contract sponsor and cloud evangelists in shaping and executing a cohesive and effective communication strategy centered around cloud technologies. Act as the bridge between technical cloud teams and non-technical stakeholders, ensuring that the benefits, features, and strategic direction of cloud adoption are clearly communicated across all levels of the organization and to external partners. Work closely with key stakeholders, including but not limited to system owners, development teams, cloud cost analysts, cloud technology evangelists, finance, and INFOSEC, to align messaging with organizational goals. Leverage a deep understanding of communication channels, audience engagement, and brand positioning to create clear, compelling, and consistent messages that foster a better understanding of cloud technologies and promote cloud adoption.

Evaluate current communication practices, identifying areas for improvement, and ensuring that all communications, from internal memos to public-facing content, reflect the organization's goals, values, and compliance obligations, such as NIST, FISMA, and FedRAMP. In addition to enhancing internal cohesion and improving interdepartmental collaboration around cloud initiatives, play a key role in strengthening the organization's external image, ensuring that the benefits of cloud technology are communicated effectively to the public, partners, and external stakeholders. Collaborate with AWS for support, troubleshooting, and engagement. Bring AWS teams into the conversation as necessary, ensuring that the government organization has access to the latest cloud solutions and best practices, and that communications reflect accurate and up-to-date cloud capabilities. Through strategic planning, creative execution, and ongoing collaboration with both internal teams and AWS, help guide the organization in its cloud journey, making cloud technologies more accessible, understood, and integrated across the government landscape.

Responsibilities

  • Cloud Messaging Strategy:

o Develop and deliver comprehensive cloud communication strategies that support the organization's cloud initiatives, ensuring consistency across all messaging platforms

o Craft tailored cloud-related messages that resonate with target audiences, including business users, technical teams, and external stakeholders

o Ensure that all communication aligns with the organization's goals, values, and compliance requirements in cloud adoption

  • Stakeholder Engagement & Collaboration:

o Work with various stakeholders, including system owners, development teams, cloud cost analysts, cloud technology evangelists, finance, and INFOSEC, to understand their communication needs and ensure cohesive messaging

o Act as a communication bridge, translating technical cloud concepts into digestible, business-friendly language for non-technical audiences

o Collaborate with AWS representatives to gather insights and create accurate, clear, and effective cloud communications

  • Evaluation & Improvement of Communication Practices:

o Assess current cloud communication practices and identify areas for improvement in terms of clarity, engagement, and effectiveness

o Propose and implement improvements to communication tools, channels, and messaging strategies that enhance engagement with target audiences

o Ensure that communication efforts are tailored to meet the needs of varied audiences, from technical teams to high-level executives and external partners

  • External Communication & Public Relations:

o Strengthen the government organization's external image by creating clear, compelling, and compliant communications related to cloud technologies

o Develop public relations materials, including press releases, social media content, and articles, that promote the organization's cloud initiatives and successes

o Foster better connections with customers, partners, and the wider community through strategic communication efforts

  • Internal Communication & Cohesion:

o Improve internal communication channels to foster greater understanding and collaboration among different departments, especially those involved in cloud initiatives

o Drive internal campaigns and communication efforts that promote the benefits and adoption of cloud technologies within the organization

o Ensure that cloud-related communication supports and enhances internal team collaboration, cohesion, and morale

  • AWS Collaboration:

o Collaborate with AWS teams for support and discussion, ensuring clear communication when delivering cloud solutions and information

o Bring AWS into the communication process when needed, leveraging their expertise to ensure accuracy and alignment with AWS offerings and solutions

o Engage AWS to co-create materials or resources that communicate complex cloud concepts effectively to stakeholders

  • Compliance Awareness:

o Ensure all communications, both internal and external, adhere to public sector cloud compliance standards, including NIST, FISMA, and FedRAMP

o Work with legal, security, and compliance teams to ensure messaging reflects the organization's commitment to following federal regulations and guidelines

Qualifications

  • Minimum Education: Bachelor's degree in related discipline AND
  • Minimum Experience: 10 years' experience including Cloud Professional Certification OR
  • Substitution/Alternative to Minimum Education and Experience: Must have at least 10 years of on-the-job experience
  • Be able to work remotely but, be able to go on-site as requested and/or occasionally with potentially some form of post-pandemic cadence, on-site in Washington DC
  • Certifications - AWS Associate or Professional Certifications and/or Project Management Professional (PMP, ACP)
  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Experience in a communications role, with experience in the public sector and a focus on technology or cloud initiatives
  • Experience working with diverse stakeholders to develop communication strategies that translate technical concepts for non-technical audiences
  • Strong background in public relations, internal communication, and content development in a cloud-focused context
  • Strong understanding of cloud technology, particularly AWS cloud services, and their impact on organizational goals
  • Proven ability to create strategic messaging and communication campaigns related to cloud adoption and modernization
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to engage diverse audiences
  • Experience working with various government stakeholders to support technology adoption initiatives, particularly cloud technologies
  • Knowledge of federal cloud compliance requirements (NIST, FISMA, FedRAMP) and experience communicating within regulated environments
  • Experience working with external vendors (such as AWS) to co-create materials and leverage vendor support in communication efforts
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, with the ability to manage multiple communication initiatives concurrently
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to anticipate and address potential barriers to change
  • Continuous learning mindset, keeping up to date with AWS cloud services, industry trends, and best practices in organizational change management within the public sector
  • Proficiency in project management tools and software (e.g., Microsoft Project, Gitlab, Trello, Asana)
  • Skills in graphic design tools (e.g., Adobe Creative Suite, Canva) to create compelling visual content, infographics, and presentations that help communicate cloud strategies
  • Ability to work Eastern Standard Time Zone schedule

Nice-to-Have Skills and Experience

  • Active Clearance or Public Trust (DOJ Preferred)
  • Experience using visual storytelling to explain cloud adoption and benefits
  • Additional Certifications (e.g., Professional Certified Marketer, Accredited Business Communicator, Certified Sales Professional, Strategic Communication Management Professional, or Certified Change Management Professional)
  • Change management and cloud cost optimization expertise
  • Understanding of Security SA&A ATO, Zero Trust Framework
  • Data Governance and Privacy Regulations
  • Familiarity with video creation tools (e.g., Camtasia, Adobe Premiere) to produce engaging video content for cloud messaging
  • Experience in crisis communication or managing public relations during high-stakes events, such as data breaches, service outages, or security incidents
  • Experience using SEO tools to optimize web content, blogs, and other online communication materials related to cloud strategies

Location: Remote or hybrid option

Salary Range for this position: $130,000-175,000

Travel Requirements

The travel requirements for this position may vary depending on our needs. You should be prepared to travel domestically as necessary. Travel frequency and duration will be communicated in advance, allowing for proper planning and coordination. Typically, travel may include attending conferences, client meetings, training sessions, and other business-related events. The ability to travel is essential for fulfilling the responsibilities of this role and supporting our organization's goals and objectives.
