Ideal Candidate:
  • 7-10 years experience
  • Big 4 Manager Level in Atlanta within a technology practice with up to a couple of years of industry experience
  • Highly motivated and wanting to be on a path to CFO
  • Strong technical acumen and exposure to + desire to learn operational aspects of finance
  • All the standard Cypress stuff - excited about the opportunity to work hard to build something great
Within the responsibilities, the primary needs are on the technical/compliance side to supplement my skillsets.  However, the right candidate will want to take on ownership beyond the accounting, which is where the expanded scope of forecasting and team-building come in.  The Big 4 Atlanta Manager designation is desirable for the technical validation it provides, the true management experience experience, and the network they will have within the local professional services.  This will be useful in selecting audit/tax partners on a go-forward basis as well as provide a recruiting network for future finance team expansion.  This role provides great exposure to world-class investors and will be working with an experienced and supportive management team.  However, to keep up with the caliber of their peers and due to the nature of our growth trajectory it also requires someone who thrives on being thrown into the deep end and figuring it out.  The successful candidate will have strong intellectual curiosity and a customer-centric orientation that allows them to learn the business quickly and earn the respect of their stakeholders.
Potential Challenges:
  • Materiality in operations floats significantly more than in audited financials.  For example, being $1k wrong on annual P&L is properly deemed de minimus but would cause significant issues in payroll.  The ability to apply the appropriate amount of precision to the task at hand is an essential skill.
  • Good Data takes hard work - analysis is usually not the challenging part, it's understanding how to gather the data and build the processes to ensure its integrity.
  • Will spend a lot of time in details but be asked to keep a high-level mentality to drive insights and recommendations
  • Significant ambiguity and reprioritization are the norm in rapid growth phases
  • External Financial Reporting:
    • Own the annual financial audit
    • Provide periodic reporting based on investor requests,
    • Provide bank required reporting
  • Tax:
    • Work with Tax firm to ensure compliance
    • Fed, State, R&D Credits, Jobs Credits, Property Tax, 1099's, and 3921's
    • Complete sales tax assessment and implement solution
    • Partner with VP Finance to develop proactive tax planning strategies, including seeking credits for job creation and evaluating implications of international expansion
  • Internal Financial Reporting:
    • Transition from Xero to Quickbooks - rebuild chart of accounts to align accounting with budget/forecast
    • Document monthly close process and work with bookkeeping firm to reduce time to close
    • Create departmental internal reporting packages and partner with departmental owners to provide insights into the business
  • Other Compliance:
    • Partner with DevOps to ensure compliance with SOC-II, GDPR and other compliance initiatives
    • Partner with sales and DevOps to create library of compliance responses to assist with customer inquiries
  • Forecast/Budget:
    • Partner with HR and Department leads to create the staffing plan
    • Partner with Department leads to create Opex budget
    • Partner with VP Finance, VP Success & Sales & Data Science to create revenue budget
  • Management:
    • Manage outsourced bookkeeping firm
    • Partner with VP Finance and Director of People to design, recruit and onboard world-class finance team to support hyper-growth
  • Other:
    • Legal/Contract review
    • Vendor Management
    • Variable Compensation
