Argo invites applications for the position of Casualty & Professional Lines Claims Manager - Bermuda, reporting to the Head of Claims.

The Casualty & Professional Lines Claims Manager role will be responsible for overseeing and handling all excess casualty and professional lines insurance claims emanating from policies written by Argo Insurance in Bermuda.  The successful candidate must have exceptional experience and a proven track record in managing a team and effective claims handling of direct excess casualty and professional insurance claims with limited direction.  The candidate should also have exceptional technical expertise and analytical skills, strong verbal and written communications skills, a proven ability to negotiate, problem solve and make decisions with sound and reasoned judgment.

 

Additional Key Responsibilities:

  • Providing support to the underwriting team, actuaries and senior management, including advising on claims developments, trends and market issues and attending client meetings and market events to assist with business acquisition and developing the book;
  • Ensuring full compliance with all stipulated global and local operating protocols, procedures and policies, service standards and regulatory compliance;
  • Proactively seeking to identify and implement continuous improvements to streamline the claims processes, procedures and systems to drive efficiency whilst promoting best practices.

 

Key Requirements, Skills and Competencies:

 

  • A minimum of 10 years of experience and solid proven track record in handling direct excess casualty and professional lines insurance claims with limited direction;
  • Experience in managing a team, mentoring and developing more junior members of staff;
  • Specialisation across multiple jurisdictions but with a very strong focus on US;
  • In-depth knowledge and experience of assessing coverage under the Bermuda form as well as London and US excess forms with the ability to analyse complex coverage issues and challenge legal advice;
  • Strong relationships with brokers and other insurance market participants in and outside the Bermuda market in large risk claims adjusting;
  • Ability to understand and apply regulatory and legal requirements in the claims context;
  • Detailed knowledge of claims life cycle and ability to develop best practice with claims experience;
  • Ability to participate in industry conferences and committees.
  • Effectively communicating with legal counsel and active participation in Mediation/Arbitration.
