The Antler Team
The Antler team comprises entrepreneurs, VC investors, and operators with strong track records of performance and achievement. The team has built companies such as fashion e-commerce company Zalora, e-commerce marketplace Lazada, music streamer Spotify, the world’s first successful online grocery store LeShop.ch, and other companies.

Key leadership include:

  • Magnus Grimeland, Chief Executive Officer: former Norwegian Navy Seal, Harvard graduate, McKinsey Junior Partner, co-founder, and CEO of Zalora, which he built, scaled and exited.
  • Stefan Jung, Partner: co-founded Rocket Internet Southeast Asia and later founded and led Venturra, one of the region’s best performing VC funds. Invested in most of the region’s success stories, including Lazada, Grab, Zalora, Zilingo, Traveloka and several others
  • Bjarne Abrahamsen, Chief Financial Officer: Princeton Mathematics major, a former investment banker in Bank of America, trader in JP Morgan, engagement manager in McKinsey, built the alternative investment branch of  SEB. Leads Antler’s finance, legal and compliance.
  • Winnie Khoo: Partner and co-head of Antler Singapore, operating and leadership roles with tech and media giants like Alibaba, PropertyGuru, Carousell.
  • Anne Tutar: Partner and co-head of Antler Norway, founder / CEO of FutureFoods, Turkey’s first health food FMCG, expanded across five markets, exit in 2017
  • KC Agerup, Chief of Investment Strategy and Operations co-founder of Hugin (SaaS company acquired by Euronext), and later co-founded Northzone, the leading European VC fund that invested in e.g. Spotify and iZettle. Co-founder of StartupLab and the Norwegian Founders Fund.
  • Teddy Himler, Partner, Investment: former investor at SoftBank, invested in e.g. Dialpad ($1.2bn valuation) and Tokopedia ($18bn valuation, merged with Grab).

Finance Manager role

Our headcount in Japan has been steadily growing and we currently have office in Toranomon, Tokyo. To further strengthen our finance operations, we are looking to secure a full-time Finance Manager.

Roles & Responsibilities

  • Reporting to the Japan Partner and Head of Finance, APAC
  • Contribute to and help guide the strategic planning process
  • Supervision of all financial and other back-office operations for Antler Japan working with our external accountants on:
    • Day-to-day financial tasks including; Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, Tax, Payroll, Financial and Management Accounting
    • Preparation and submission of Financial statements, Corporate Tax Returns and any other necessarily documents required by Japanese Authorities
    • Expense control to ensure compliance with our global expense policy
    • Creation of the monthly management accounts for the operating company
    • Creation of monthly and quarterly accounts for the Fund
  • Review and provide analysis of performance KPIs of the monthly management accounts with Global Finance and Partners
  • Manage cashflow, budgets and forecasting tightly across the business
  • Own the quarterly reporting processes and ensure that Fund Performance is prepared and distributed each quarter, compliance is submitted on time and all documentation is maintained.
  • Run the yearly audit for the Fund with external auditors and ensure Financial Statements, Tax Distribution Statements and the Tax Returns are submitted on time.
  • Work closely with our Head of Finance, APAC, Global Finance function and local management to improve and maintain Antler’s Finance, Control and Reporting functions
  • Work with Local Partners in managing the cash flow and payments related to fund investments and expenses
  • Supporting Local Partners in managing the investment processes for follow-on investment rounds of portfolio companies[{{type}} Annotation]
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders such as Limited Partners of the Fund, founders, banks, consultants, grant advisors and the broader Global Team.
  • Develop and implement risk management controls, cost behavior and savings.
  • Work with our external HR advisor and our Head of Operations to ensure all employee and OH&S documentation/policy is up to date
  • Work with our external legal advisors on any legal matters that arise
  • Other ad hoc projects as and when required

To be successful in this role you will need:

  • Minimum 3 years’ experience overseeing a finance function
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, or related field, and professional membership of either CA, CPA or equivalent
  • Leadership skills, with steadfast resolve and personal integrity
  • Exceptional skills in budgeting and forecasting
  • Experience with group reporting
  • A solid grasp of data analysis and performance metrics
  • Be able to diagnose problems quickly and have foresight into potential issues
  • Speaks English and Japanese
