Job Description 

As the Global Government Relations Specialist, you will help achieve the organization's compliance and the GR team’s quality assurance objectives by ensuring strict adherence to standards and policies. Your responsibilities will span across organization wide compliance and risk management, stakeholder engagement and quality assurance/project management. You will sit under the department's Chief of Staff and report to the Global Government Relations Associate

Key Job Responsibilities

Organisational compliance and risk management 

  • Lead the review, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of compliance work at the global level.
  • Collaborate with relevant internal teams to identify, assess and evaluate the impact of international regulations and best practices.
  • Oversee and report on compliance with policies under the Environmental and Social Management System (ESMS).
  • Support the development and enforcement of an org wide compliance dashboard among departments  such as Legal, Global Supply Chain, Finance and People.
  • Partner with internal units such as Legal, Internal Audit and OOCEO, to assess and ensure effectiveness of control systems in driving compliance

Country compliance and risk management

  • Design and implement self-audit programs to monitor the effectiveness of compliance systems across countries.
  • Track all countries’ progress towards fully owning their compliance outcomes. Ensuring countries are regularly using and updating their compliance trackers, well equipped to achieve their next steps and reporting to relevant internal stakeholders about compliance health on a quarterly basis.
  • Work closely with country compliance leads and other internal stakeholders to proactively mitigate, identify and resolve compliance issues.
  • Lead staff training programs to reinforce a culture of compliance and accountability

External network management

  • Collaborate with country GR leads on the development and implementation of their annual stakeholder strategies.
  • Partner with in-country champions to ensure our Customer Relationship Management software is being effectively used to deliver their stakeholder management goals and achieve our strategic priorities.
  • Conduct regular assessments of stakeholder engagement initiatives, identifying barriers to progress and recommending areas for improvement.

Department excellence portfolio

  • Work alongside country, regional and global GR staff to implement the department’s quality assurance priorities across all countries.
  • Ensure adherence to the minimum expectations communicated through the Job Level map and team checklist.
  • Promote knowledge management and skills building initiatives across the department.
  • Support the implementation of high priority projects for the department's leadership group as the need arises.
  • Engage with GRP staff to identify and implement efficiencies in our current ways of working across all countries. 

 

Top Skills and Qualifications

  • At least 2 years of experience/working knowledge in compliance standards and regulations
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field
  • Project management skills 
  • High attention to detail and problem solving skills
  • Strong communication skills
  • Collaborative skills with the ability to build alignment and drive results in collaboration with others
  • Proactivity with the ability to identify risks early on and mitigate them before they occur
  • English required in all locations. Other notable and useful languages are Swahili, Kinyarwanda.
