Job Description
We are looking for a Monitoring, Evaluation, and Learning (MEL) or field research professional to join our team as a MEL Associate in Muramvya, Burundi. As the MEL Associate, you will use data to improve our operations, develop a deputy, and coordinate our MEL activities across multiple programs and teams. You will contribute to make informed decisions for our long-term strategy by working with leadership and the program team in Burundi.
You will report to the MEL Deputy Director and the in-country Impact lead. The MEL Department at One Acre Fund operates as an in-house research department, and results are used to inform program decisions and rigorously understand impact.

Key Job Responsibilities
- Design surveys and field-test survey tools.
- Innovate on the process of data collection and presentation of usable results.
- Analyze data to draw first and final conclusions and write reports with recommended actions.
- Work with field teams in other departments to ensure ATS results are understood and acted upon. Supervise the local MEL team, which includes a field activities coordinator and a data analyst, who support a team of over 30 full-time surveyors. You will:
- Guide employees through field visits, meetings, training program and career reviews.
- Supervise the main MEL activities in the field, with the aim of achieving "perfect" quality standards.
- Monitor the quality and management of the data collection process.
- Oversee the hiring and development of department employees.
- Define the organizational strategy based on MEL results in collaboration with the management and program team.
Top Skills and Qualifications
- Professional or academic experience in M&E or field data collection, evaluation or research design and implementation, and results analysis.
- Bachelor's degree in Public Policy, International Development, Statistics, Agronomy, Economics, or related field (Master's degree in related field preferred).
- Quantitative skills with experience of statistical analysis software (e.g. Stata, R)
- Logical and structured thinking skills with a clear and convincing written communication style.
- Experience in employee capacity building
- Organizational and coordination skills
- Workplace leadership experience and enthusiasm for learning and growth.
- Language skills - English (required), French (required), Kirundi (preferred)
