We are looking for candidates with a broad range of technical skills, but core to this position is expertise in designing, building, and orchestrating reliable data pipelines for analytics. We use ELT style data pipelines, and our tool stack is constantly evolving. Currently, we use a mix of Fivetran, Redshift, S3, and Civis. Equally important to this role is the ability to clearly translate business requirements into technical specs, and significant stakeholder management experience. As the key Analytics infrastructure owner, you are the bridge between the organization and its data infrastructure.

We use a range of modern tools and services – we are agile in what we use but the following reflect core expectations of your knowledge-base:

  • Redshift, PostGREs, or similar columnar data warehouse (deep SQL expertise)
  • Knowledge around database architecture principles (i.e., data models, layers, etc.)
  • Expertise in languages for data ELT processes (Python, Spark, Scala, etc.) and performance optimization in and around these systems
  • Work enabling a range of analytics users – some in BI tools (Tableau, Looker, etc.), data exploration (Superset, ggplot2, etc.) and advanced front-end visualization tools (d3, highcharts, etc.)
  • Understanding of how / when to use different tools for pushing analytic models or output into production (e.g., chron jobs, Airflow based DAG, REST APIs via Flask or Plumber)

Below is a list of tools we consider valuable incoming knowledge. We don't expect you to be an expert with all of them, but experience with a few of them is preferred:

  • Analytics / ELT languages (e.g., Python, Scala, R)
  • Deploying models as REST APIs and associated content (e.g., Flask, Django, Plumber, Swagger)
  • Front-end dashboard tools (e.g., RShiny, Dash, Panel)
  • Cluster-Based analytics solutions (e.g., Spark, EMR, dataproc, Docker, Kubernetes)
  • ELT Tools and Frameworks (e.g., AWS Glue, Airflow, Civis, Matillion)
  • Cloud-infrastructure fundamentals (AWS EC2, Azure VM, etc.; AWS Lambda,  Azure Functions, etc.; Azure Blob Storage, AWS S3, etc.)
  • Experience with different data sources (Digital – Heap, Adobe Analytics, etc.; CRM – Salesforce, SAP CRM ,etc; Voter Files; Scraped and FOIA'd datasets)
