ABOUT THE JOB
The ACLU seeks a full-time position of Data Operations Director, Volunteer Management System (VMS) in the National Political Advocacy Department of the ACLU’s National office in New York, NY. This is a hybrid role that has in-office requirements of two (2) days per week or eight (8) days per month.
The National Political Advocacy Department (NPAD) works to strengthen the efforts of the ACLU at the federal, state, and local levels of government. The department harnesses the political power that comes from having more than eight million members and supporters, as well as affiliates in every state. By organizing grassroots lobbying and issue campaigns using modern tactics, the ACLU seeks to achieve change as profound in the legislative, administrative and electoral arenas as it has accomplished through the courts.
WHAT YOU'LL DO:
- Serve as business-facing admin of the ACLU's VMS and voter file platforms, including but not limited to: NGP-VAN and EveryAction. This includes monitoring the use of the systems to ensure compliance with ACLU data practices
- Lead management of activist codes, survey questions, and other shared processes across the organization
- Support the work of other departments at National who have front end VMS dependencies
- Work in partnership with data and technology teams to build and maintain the shared state and national data infrastructure necessary to support organizational goals
- Act as the primary business requirements leader for VMS-related data initiatives within the organization
- Identify process improvements within and outside of the EA/VAN platform
- Serve as a “trainer of trainers”, focusing on providing the technical details needed to state level admins and other relevant National staff
- Develop and coordinate long-term plans and process improvements for providing services and support to campaigns for upcoming cycles
- Ensure our data, tools and products are documented to maximize usability and troubleshooting,
- Coordinate communication with all stakeholders about tools, services, support, training to various community constituencies
- Collaborate on a comprehensive training program for all relevant departments to ensure effective and efficient use of VMS data, tools, services, and technology,

WHAT YOU'LL BRING
- Previous experience using EveryAction and NGPVAN a must
- Extensive experience in an organizing or data management focused role for a progressive organization
- Previous experience as a national or state level data admin/director
- A talent for communicating technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
- A vision for how community collaborations and strategic support, coupled with resources such as tools or products, provide decisive edges in the field
- A passion for training, documentation, and knowledge/best practice sharing
- The ability to understand and deploy systems that are managed across multiple parts of a team
- Previous experience providing support to staff and/or volunteers a plus
