Founded in 2017, 0x created and now partakes in the development of 0x protocol: the open-source, global backbone for decentralized exchange. And we’ve since developed two other keystone products: Matcha and the 0x developer platform.

Matcha is a DEX aggregator, built by 0x. With over 5 million tokens indexed across 9 blockchains, the decentralized exchange provides aggregated liquidity from +100 sources and the most efficient trade execution through smart routing. Matcha offers swaps, limit orders and cross chain trades, having enabled over $62B volume and 3.5M+ trades as the first consumer-facing product by the 0x team.

0x platform is developers' one-stop shop to build financial products on crypto rails. 0x empowers hundreds of teams and developers with essential web3 tools to enable faster trading, better prices and superior UX. Our suite of APIs has processed over 60M+ million transactions and $133B+ in volume from more than 6 million users trading on apps like Coinbase Wallet, Robinhood Wallet, Metamask, Zerion, Zapper, and more.

YOUR ROLE AS DIRECTOR OF OF ENGINEERING AT 0x

In this role, you’ll lead engineering across all our products, covering Matcha, 0x API, Pricing Engine, and Platform. It is a senior and highly motivated team. Your mission will be to keep the engineering team moving quickly and flexibly and shape and foster the engineering culture for the company.

You’ll effectively bridge communication from business leaders to the engineering team, and vice versa. You’ll help the team maintain a healthy pace for long-term sustainability by carefully balancing velocity vs. technical debt. You’ll be a steward and key influencer for both engineering and company culture.

On any given day, you may work with the CEO’s direct reports on business or organizational strategy, make priority calls on roadmap items and feature vs. technical debt tradeoffs, adjust team structure to better align with the business and market conditions, coach team members irrespective of their function, develop strong technical and managerial leaders, or review a functional specification.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Define the engineering culture at 0x Labs and what it means to be an engineer on the team.
  • Establish engineering-wide structure, processes, and systems. Identify opportunities for improvement or new teams that should be created.
  • Develop a hiring plan that allows our team to achieve its vision. Prioritize hiring and staffing to attract top engineering talent from a diverse spectrum of backgrounds, helping 0x Labs get even stronger as we grow.
  • Set engineering-wide goals and help the team to deliver on those metrics. Measure and improve team engagement and productivity.
  • Break down barriers for our organization, in particular those that span teams, functions, or departments. Lead engineering-wide initiatives to drive successful outcomes now and over time by ensuring our teams have the context, capabilities, rituals and resources to deliver effectively.
  • Collaborate with product management and design leadership to guide the overall technical direction for 0x products and achieve shared goals.
  • In the short term mentor, coach, and grow our engineering team, with a focus on developing future leaders.
  • Budget and manage costs for engineering.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Serious interest in crypto and passion for the benefits of decentralization and the 0x mission
  • Experience as an engineering leader managing multiple teams that require complex coordination. And 5+ years of experience as a hands-on software engineer.
  • Demonstrable flexibility with how to manage — you can structure your time and the engineering organization to suit the business needs.
  • Demonstrable experience understanding the right amount of process to bring in and when.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Intellectual curiosity and great problem solving skills.
  • Experience in startups and in large organizations.

  • US-equivalent timezone and ability to travel 3-4 times per year
  • Preferred:
    • Production experience with TypeScript and Rust
    • Knowledge of the crypto tech stack including protocols, smart contracts, infrastructure, and developer tools
    • Knowledge of crypto-economic protocols, market structures and exchange related concepts
    • Enjoy discussing technical concepts with engineers, product managers, and customers

  • The base salary range for this position is USD $265,000 - $355,000 + equity + ZRX tokens + benefits. Within the range, individual pay is determined by job-related skills, experience, location, business needs, and candidate preferences between the different compensation elements.
