Summary

The Group Strategy Director is responsible for leadership of Brand and Social Strategists across several accounts. The GSD will help grow the skill-sets of the team and deepen relationships with clients. They will help the teams think ‘big picture’, while balancing day-to-day. The ideal candidate thinks like an entrepreneur - always seeing opportunity and acting as if the business is their own. The GSD is an expert in building brands that impact culture, drive business and create emotional resonance with consumers. This person embodies Zambezi’s charge to help clients Take Bigger Bites, is ambitious, positive and a compelling presenter. They will report into the Chief Strategy Officer. 

This position will start remotely and ultimately work out of our office in Culver City, CA.

Responsibilities

  • Thought leadership and development of effective, fresh and inspiring strategic direction
  • Partnership across Account, Creative, Media and Social teams
  • Applies cross-category knowledge to brand challenges
  • Designs, conducts and analyzes research with customer insight mining prowess
  • Strategic leadership on all aspects of new business (as needed)
  • Communicates a vision or goal to others and leads them toward achieving it
  • Pushes for action and results, and wins the support and help of others
  • Stays engaged in the crafting and selling of ideas, always finding ways to make the work better and more impactful
  • Builds and leverages client trust to help take business-appropriate risks and knows where any given assignment fits into overall strategy
  • Collaborates with Creative Department to ensure creative product is the highest quality, meets client objectives and leads the category
  • Uncovers opportunities to maximize current marketing plans, engage customers in new ways, and increase customer loyalty through integrated communications solution
  • Encourages the exploration of innovative ideas, including non-traditional media options
  • Works to keep simplicity and focus over time – always with an eye toward creative output
  • Synthesizes large amounts of data into actionable insights
  • Always exploring new ways to understand how effective we are, from forming KPIs to working with clients on research and testing approaches

Requirements

  • 10+ years of brand strategy experience, demonstrating effectiveness at creatively-led agencies
  • Experience forging strong relationships with clients, creative and account
  • Experience managing and inspiring a team of direct reports
  • Demonstrates and communicates a high level of ownership and commitment to achieving result; Takes responsibility for one's own actions and decisions, and their consequences
  • Inspires great work and strategically brings it to life
  • Understanding of and ability to guide social and comms planning
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
