As an Engineering Manager at Zip Co, you will be responsible for leading a team of talented engineers to design, build, and maintain our payment platform. You will work closely with product owners, stakeholders, architecture team, and other engineering teams to ensure efficient delivery and high-quality outcomes. Your expertise in payment systems, including acquiring, issuing, and orchestration between multiple Alternative Payment Methods (APMs), will be crucial in driving the development of our platform's capabilities.

What you’ll bring to the team 

  • Bachelor's in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.  A graduate degree is a plus.
  • Demonstrated experience as an Engineering Manager or in a comparable leadership role within a technology company, with a preference for those in the payments industry. This includes extensive knowledge of payment processing systems, covering both acquiring and issuing, as well as familiarity with multiple Alternative Payment Methods (APMs). 
    • Strong experience with card tokenization solutions: Deep understanding of tokenization processes, security implications, and integration with payment gateways and processors.
    • Payments fraud solutions: Expertise in developing and implementing fraud detection and prevention systems, leveraging machine learning and other advanced technologies.
    • Payments orchestration: Proven experience in orchestrating complex payment flows, ensuring efficient and reliable transaction processing across multiple payment methods.
    • Chargeback solutions: Familiarity with chargeback processes, dispute management, and the development of systems to minimize chargebacks and improve dispute resolution.
    • Experience with PCI-DSS compliance: Understanding of the Payment Card Industry Data Security Standard and its application in payment systems.
    • Knowledge of modern security protocols: Experience with implementing and maintaining security measures to protect payment data and transactions.
    • Knowledge of different payment methods: In-depth understanding of various payment methods, including credit/debit cards, digital wallets, bank transfers, and emerging payment technologies.
    • Familiarity with industry standards: Knowledge of industry standards and best practices, such as ISO 8583, EMV, PSD2, CCPA, Nacha and other relevant regulations and protocols.
  • At least seven (7) years of hands-on experience as a software engineer in a .NET/C# environment prior to assuming the role of Engineering Manager.
  • Experience in enterprise class software engineering practices, principles and methodologies.
  • Solid understanding of software engineering principles, design patterns, and best practices.
  • Proficiency in modern programming languages and frameworks (e.g., .Net, Java, Python, JavaScript, etc.).
  • Experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure) and DevOps practices.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to make sound technical decisions.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse teams.
  • Strong analytical and debugging skills to analyze complex systems, identify issues, and use expert judgement to implement effective solutions.
  • A track record of delivering high-quality software solutions on time and within budget.
  • Passion for innovation and a desire to stay current with industry trends.

The Pay Range for this position: $165,000 - $190,000 USD based on the industry benchmark for position, function, level and Zip's compensation strategies. However, actual base salary will depend on varying circumstances and individualized factors, such as job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and other objective business considerations. 

Subject to those same considerations, the total compensation package for this position may also include other elements, including a bonus and/or equity awards, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits.
