KoBold Metals Zambia is building a rapidly growing team of Zambian geologists, operators, and executives to identify, acquire, explore, and develop exploration opportunities and mineral resources drawing upon KoBold’s technology and the expertise of colleagues worldwide.

About The Role:

The TSF Engineer will be responsible for the early start design activities for the Mingomba Mine Tailings Storage Facility, including pre-feasibility and feasibility engineering studies.  You will help to identify, design, and execute the optimal TSF program necessary to maximize safety.  In addition, you will be responsible for the strategy, implementation, and execution of waste management strategies consistent with development plans and in coordination with production teams. You will be responsible for building and fostering a collaborative relationship for tailings management with surrounding operators where required. You will also be involved in the early-stage activities that are required as part of the environmental authorization process. 

You will join an outstanding team of geoscientists, data scientists, and software engineers. You will be a core part of the project teams, advancing the science and practice of exploration. You will help develop novel data collection and monitoring programs.  Working closely with geologists, hydrogeologists, and data scientists you will support the construction of physics-based and data-driven models of the hydrogeology of our exploration sites and state-of-the-art water management strategies. 

Reporting to the Project Controls Manager, the responsibilities of this position include:

  • Conducting desktop studies utilizing data and information acquired from various relevant sources
  • Review, design, construction and remediation of tailings structures throughout project lifecycle including pre-feasibility, feasibility, detailed design, construction and operational stages
  • Assist directing/advising Design Consultants, permitting team, and project team in relation to TSF design requirements to follow International Standards and National Standards
  • 3D modeling of preliminary design drawings of the TSF including supporting infrastructure
  • Work with appointed consultants and peer reviewers on the designs for the tailings facilities
  • Conduct due diligence reviews, scoping and pre-feasibility studies.
  • Design and supervision of waste facilities.
  • Project management and coordination as required.
  • Writing of detailed reports and proposals.
  • Providing mentoring and training.
  • Perform other duties as requested.

 

Qualifications

Our ideal candidate will have

  • Degree in Civil Engineering, Geotechnical Engineering, or similar. 
  • 10 years minimum experience in the design, construction and maintenance of Tailings Storage Facilities across all stages of large-scale mining projects.
  • Well-versed in tailings management, geotechnics, and water management.
  • Proven track record of bringing projects in on time, within budget and client approval.
  • Strong understanding of technical, production and maintenance strategies for processing plants and storage dams
  • Strong report and proposal writing skills.
  • Ability to review reports, carry out audits, manage people, technical teams and providing mentoring and training.

In addition to the above, you will have:

  • In depth understanding of legislative requirements relating to tailings storage facilities
  • Understand and execute accountabilities of legal appointment under Zambian Mining Regulations
  • Registered with the Engineering Institute of Zambia (EIZ), and eligible to hold legal appointment as defined by the Mining Regulations of Zambia
  • Ability to work in a multicultural environment
  • Possess the ability to analyze and understand complex technical information
  • Good leadership and motivational skills, with the ability to get work done through others
