The Role:
YouGov Sport are looking for a talented and proven Database developer with experience of database structure design and extensive knowledge of the T-SQL. The ideal candidate will have expertise in MS SQL Server and a proven track record of Developing and optimizing the performance of particularly with complex datasets. A minimum of 4 years’ experience developing SQL Server Database Systems is a must, with specific knowledge of SQL Server 2019.
YouGov Sport has developed a proprietary web-based dashboard to allow our clients access to in-depth, comprehensive research data, enabling them to carry out instant, ad-hoc analysis of key metrics relating to their effectiveness across multiple media channels.
Using your expertise in database developments, builds, migrations and upgrades, you will be responsible for enhancing the performance of this dashboard and other YouGov Sport systems.
Overall role objectives:
- Take ownership and responsibility for the maintenance and development of the YouGov Sport databases
- As a Database Developer, you will be responsible for developing, constructing, testing, and maintaining architectures, such as databases and large-scale processing systems
Key responsibilities:
- Design, develop, implement, and maintain database solutions using MS SQL Server, ensuring scalability, reliability, performance and security.
- Develop SQL DB objects as per the design and defined standards.
- Maintain / Writing SQL database schemas and scripts, including views, stored procedures, / Dynamic queries and triggers.
- Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data from multiple databases to support reference data enhancements and new functionalities.
- Optimize database performance through indexing, query optimization, and other performance tuning techniques, especially for complex data sets.
- Independently analyse, solve, and correct issues in real time, providing problem resolution end-to-end.
- Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
- Provide support, guidance and collaborate with Application Developers to implement database design & solution.
- Stay up to date with emerging technologies and trends in database management and data engineering.
- Provide support for critical production systems.
- Monitor database performance and troubleshoot issues as they arise, working with IT operations teams to resolve problems.
- Collaborate with system DBAs to help implement database changes, upgrades, and migrations.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field.
- Proven 4+ years’ experience as a Database Developer or similar role, with a focus on MS SQL Server.
- Strong SQL programming skills, with the ability to write complex queries, stored procedures, Functions, Views.
- Experience optimizing the performance of web-based applications, including identifying and resolving performance bottlenecks, particularly with complex data sets.
- Familiarity with database design principles, including normalization, indexing, and data modelling.
- Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
- Strong communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively in a team environment.
- Experience working in an Agile development environment is a plus.
- Relevant certifications such as Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate or similar are advantageous.
- Experienced in alternate open-source technology is a plus
- Basic programming knowledge on any NoSQL database is a plus.
