As a Software Engineer on the Human Data team, you will be part of an elite group of software engineers responsible for improving frontier AI model capabilities on the most challenging software engineering problems. To accomplish this, you will build, maintain and take ownership of large codebases, demonstrating how AI models should resolve complex issues.

You will work closely with the technical staff to identify blindspots in our models, and help design strategies to resolve these gaps. We expect you to leverage your expertise in software to come up with new paradigms to evaluate frontier AI models, and at the same time learn insights into how these models are trained, and how to use them effectively

Responsibilities

  • Build, maintain and take ownership of codebases written in Python, Rust, JavaScript, C/C++, Java and Go.
  • Evaluate and refine AI-generated code, ensuring it adheres to industry standards for efficiency, scalability, and reliability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to evaluate and refine AI-generated code.

Basic  Qualifications

  • Advanced proficiency in English, both verbal and written.
  • Knowledge in at least one of Python, Rust, JavaScript, C/C++, Java, Go, with a solid foundation in software development practices.
  • Strong grasp of computer science fundamentals.

Preferred Skills and Experience

  • 2 years of hands-on industry experience with a proven track record in software development and working with large code bases.
  • A high reputation on platforms like Stack Overflow.
  • Evidence of meaningful contributions to open source projects.
  • Evidence of strong performance in programming competitions, eg. a high rating on Codeforces, or success in the ICPC.
  • The ideal candidate for this role is adaptable, possesses strong logical reasoning skills applicable to various scenarios, is detail-oriented and thrives in a fast-paced work environment.
  • Extensive experience with a wide array of tools and systems such as databases, SQL, Kubernetes, Spark, Kafka, gRPC, AWS, etc.

Additional Requirements

  • Available to work evenings and weekends, as the schedule varies depending on team operational needs; flexibility is required.
  • Demonstrates a strong capacity to quickly adapt by learning new skills and unlearning outdated ones, thriving in dynamic and changing environments.

Location and Hourly Expectations

This position offers the flexibility of being either remote or in-office.

Compensation and Benefits

  • $55/hour - $65/hour

Your actual level and base pay will be determined on a case-by-case basis and may vary based on the following considerations: job-related knowledge and skills, education, and experience.

Base pay is just one part of your total rewards package at xAI.
