Job Description

As an important member of the in-house tax team, you will be assisting the Group Tax Manager in the delivery of a full range of tax compliance services to the various businesses, and back-office functions of the group covering the income tax, GST and employment taxes of the various jurisdictions in which the group conducts business operations (but principally Australia and New Zealand). This Position will provide an excellent opportunity for career development to an individual who demonstrates drive and initiative towards personal and professional growth.

Key areas include:

  • Ensure timely preparation and lodgement of internal and external tax compliance
  • Prepare tax provisions and submissions for reporting purposes at half-year and year-end 
  • Assist in preparation of year-end tax notes and commentary 
  • Assist in preparation of consolidated monthly GST returns
  • Assist with tax audits, reviews and investigations 
  • Support the Finance function in preparing tax forecasts and budgets
  • Liaise with external advisors in relation to Tax compliance matters 
  • Periodic updating of the group’s effective tax rate calculation
  • Preparation of activity statements and liaising with the ATO & other government agencies.
  • Maintain various in-house tax registers and tax files
  • Provide support to and report to the Group Tax Manager
  • Assist in the preparation and lodgement of various ATO & other government agencies forms
  • Continuous process improvement by developing or implementing best practices
  • Building relationships with key people in the group’s various businesses and back-office departments
  • Assisting, where required, in providing support in other related aspects of commercial and operational activities and other ad-hoc tasks

Qualifications and Experience

  • Minimum of 2-3 years' demonstrated experience as a qualified Accountant
  • Bachelor in Accounting or Finance
  • CA / CPA qualifications (or near completion) are desirable
  • Well-developed interpersonal and communication skills 
  • Experience in tax effect accounting, activity statements, and fringe benefit tax
  • Experience with CCH’s Tax Integrator software package
  • Able to manage competing priorities and solving problems
  • A well-developed client service ethos 
  • Self-starter with a strong desire to learn (keeping abreast of tax developments as they occur) 
  • Organised, efficient, strong attention to detail and a high level of accuracy
  • Aptitude for the ‘big picture’ and with an eye for detail
  • Good excel skills – pivot tables/ lookups
