The vision of the WPP Open Platform is to create a common development and architecture framework, with supporting infrastructure, for the development of digital products across WPP. The platform will provide the single point for access to world class technology and data for our agencies; allowing them to build and scale products and applications, then share them across the business, improving visibility and collaboration. With Open, we expect to address our client needs faster and reduce the time to market for new capabilities.

We are looking for an experienced and highly skilled Senior Python Developer to join our team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in web development using Python and related frameworks. As a senior member of the team, you will be responsible for designing, implementing, and maintaining complex web applications that meet the needs of our clients while providing guidance and mentorship to junior developers.

Your primary focus will be building the ‘back-end’ of our product, working alongside back-end developers to create a comprehensive platform. An expert in the domain and able to develop code that is aligned with the overall vision to ensure the highest quality development is always achieved so it creates a great user experience. You will have excellent knowledge of the DevOps process and can work with large and complex codebases to ensure our product is leading edge.

What you'll be doing:

  • Design, develop, and maintain complex web applications using Python, FastAPI, or other relevant frameworks
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and create efficient and scalable solutions
  • Integrate web applications with databases, APIs, and other third-party services
  • Write clean, maintainable, and well-documented code following best practices and industry standards
  • Troubleshoot, debug, and optimize web applications to ensure optimal performance and user experience
  • Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in web development to continuously improve skills and contribute to the team's knowledge base
  • Participate in code reviews and provide constructive feedback to peers, while fostering a culture of continuous learning and improvement
  • Mentor and guide junior developers, sharing knowledge and expertise to help them grow professionally
  • Assist in the estimation and planning of development tasks and projects, ensuring timely delivery and high-quality results
  • You will work closely with the Engineering Lead & Product leads across the other product areas in the business

What you'll need:

  • 4+ years of hands-on Python development experience with a focus on web applications/services
  • Strong knowledge of Python 3.x and either FastAPI/Flask framework
  • Hands-on experience with RDBMS (Postgres, Oracle or others) and ORM
  • Significant and demonstrable experience designing microservices
  • Significant and demonstrable experience of TDD alongside the use of automated test frameworks, mocking/stubbing
  • Significant and demonstrable Cloud experience with knowledge of Cloud Native products preferably GCP
  • An ability to understand and translate product and business requirements into technical solutions rapidly and effectively
  • Significant experience of working with Agile methodologies
  • Strong spoken and written English
