The Assistant Controller is responsible for managing the centralized accounting processes and systems and ensuring accurate consolidation of financial data according to policies and procedures. The Assistant Controller will be instrumental in building and improving the accounting processes across HQ and regional offices to support growth in our business. This role requires an experienced, collaborative, and adaptable accounting and finance professional with strong leadership and people management skills. The Assistant Controller must be able to think strategically, as well as ensure efficient and effective day-to-day operations. This position reports directly to the VP of Finance/Corporate Controller. 

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Manage day-to-day operations of the accounting activities including AR, AP, Fixed Assets, Payroll
  • Manage the monthly close timeline and process across HQ and regional offices, including review of journal entries and reconciliations
  • Collaborate with business owners to ensure timely and accurate financial data available
  • Support the preparation of financial reports to provide information to management for decision making
  • Support the external financial statement audit
  • Manage other regulatory and tax compliance procedures, including 1099 / 1042 filing
  • Develop and document business processes and accounting policies to drive operational efficiencies and strengthen internal controls, as needed
  • Manage and lead accounting staff, providing overall direction, oversight, and coaching
  • Ensure consistent implementation of accounting principles and procedures in full compliance with GAAP as well as internal reporting requirements
  • Analyze and interpret existing and generally accepted accounting principles, including guidance on leases and revenue recognition
  • Exhibit flexibility and willingness to take on new responsibilities and assignments as they are identified and to assist with various ad hoc projects as needed

 Qualifications: 

  • Experience in the following is preferred: NetSuite ERP; Concur for Invoicing; Concur for T&E; Google Suite of Products; 1099 Pro Software
  • Significant knowledge of GAAP and financial reporting, including process improvement and accounting/finance best practices
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret financial reports, as well as write reports and business correspondence
  • Demonstrated skills in supervising, coaching staff, and creating high performing teams, and experience managing a diverse international team is an asset
  • A skilled leader who effectively leads the group by clearly communicating expectations, following through on deliverables and providing input and direction to ensure the accurate and timely development and communication of financial data
  • Public and Private Accounting Experience required
  • CPA license highly preferred
  • 8+ years of experience in Accounting or similar role, and 4+ years in a managerial role
  • Knowledge of Sports Media & Entertainment highly preferred
  • Bachelors of Accounting or similar degree, from an accredited university, required
