In 2016, Kelly Slater Wave Company (KSWC), joined the WSL as an innovative wave technology company. KSWC is the first to develop a formula that combines cutting-edge science, engineering, and design to create the longest, open-barrel, high-performance wave in existence.

The World Surf League is seeking a narrative-driven, passionate and innovative Associate Social Media Producer to join our Content Strategy & Social team. This position will report directly into the Social Media Manager. This position will be responsible mainly supporting the creation, editing and social publishing of our visual assets across our social channels; reflective of social media strategy and broader content/marketing strategies. The position will be responsible for supporting in identifying, developing and executing concepts in and out of live competition coverage. Understanding of key narrative elements and specific formats to share them amongst multiple social channels will be a critical backbone to the role’s collaboration with the team. Works under the supervision of the Surf Ranch Sous Chef and Kitchen Supervisor. The cook is responsible for assisting the culinary team on the execution and preparation of menu items, receiving and processing deliveries, cleaning, and supporting the culinary department as requested by Chefs, Hospitality management, and people leaders. The position is responsible for ensuring quality meals and service for Surf Ranch guests during their stay. An integral role within the World Surf League (WSL) Communications team, the Communications Coordinator is responsible for supporting the Communications team in developing tactics and executing plans to maximize the reach and awareness of the WSL to the public across national and international competitions, campaigns, and brand initiatives. In this role, organization and attention to detail are key to ensuring efficiencies across the department, while innovative thinking is critical for driving new connections for the WSL. This role will report directly into the VP, Global Communications.
Based on business priorities and team priorities, while in a hybrid working environment, the successful candidate should be based in Los Angeles, California. This is a hybrid role and will include 3 days in our HQ office in El Segundo, Tuesday through Thursday.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
PR Planning and Execution
- Support execution of PR/communications plans.
- Quality control on Communications materials, inclusive of press releases, ensuring error-free execution.
- Research new press contacts and social opinion leaders, and develop new ideas for amplification of assigned projects.
- Draft press releases, press pitches, messaging points, and briefing materials for all assigned projects.
- Assist with press pitching and outreach. Curate assets for media kits, including compelling narratives/messaging and visuals.
- Draft WSL social and editorial posts (copy and assets) as relevant to Communications projects, announcements, and buzz-worthy moments off-channel.
- Research and organize database of social opinion leaders within surfing, sport, entertainment, and lifestyle sectors.

Regional Communications

Competition Press Management

- Book Comms-related travel as necessary (athletes, ambassadors, press, etc).

Ongoing Responsibilities
- Consistently contribute to and maintain the WSL’s comprehensive Communications Toolkit, including the Communications calendar, media database, Comms style guides and messaging, risk register, business metrics, and executive bios.
- Clip press articles, TV segments, and social posts for reporting purposes. Create presentations, newsletters, excel reports, and recap decks.
- Review all external press inquiries. Manage response register to ensure all inquiries are answered or elevated internally within 24 hours.

Summary:
The EVS team ensures a professional and positive overall impression of the property by providing the necessary service of ensuring clean and comfortable shared use spaces across the site. EVS positively represents Surf Ranch through the daily cleaning of assigned space’s, back of house areas, and common areas as per the established standards of cleanliness and through interaction with guests.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Vacuums, sweeps, mops, and cleans flooring in common areas and employee spaces
- Scrubs, disinfects and deodorizes bathtubs / showers, toilets, wash basins, wastebaskets, tile and other bathroom and / or vanity fixtures and furnishings in the common areas and employee spaces.
- Dusts, brushes, polishes, cleans and vacuums furniture, glass, mirrors, curtains, framed pictures, appliances and other structural fixtures and furnishings in common areas and employee spaces

Summary:

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- To prepare and carry out food and beverage service to guests in a courteous and efficient manner. This includes offering service to guests, regularly checking the floor, this includes all ranch house, decks and surrounding areas.
- To keep back of house and ranch house areas tidy at all times and to regularly clean all associated equipment.
- Mix ingredients to prepare cocktails and other drinks for guest and wash utensils after each use.

The overall safety and security of Surf Ranch is critical to the site, staff, and guests visiting Surf Ranch and the Site Safety Officer (SSO) will be responsible for this undertaking. Under the direct supervision of the Surf Ranch Health, Safety, Security & Environment (HSSE) Manager, the Site Safety Officer at Surf Ranch will work to keep Surf Ranch safe and secure at all times. This position will be responsible for all vehicles and patrons that arrive and depart Surf Ranch daily. The security of Surf Ranch is critical and can directly affect the overall guest experience. The Surf Ranch Site Safety Officer must have a thorough understanding of the Surf Ranch property lines and all entrances and exits on site. The Site Safety Officer must understand areas of the property that are less secure than others and to monitor those areas accordingly.
Responsibilities include, but not limited to:
- Interface with guests and employees as they enter Surf Ranch through the service and main entrances.
- Identify guests as they arrive and ensure that they have an invitation to be onsite.
- Patrol Surf Ranch on a consistent basis.
- Monitor the perimeter fence throughout the day and night.
- Intervene and resolve security threats or issues as they arise.
- Guard position will most likely be the first visual touchpoint upon guest arrival so friendliness, and good attitude are important per Surf Ranch ‘guest service trail’.
- Assist with overnight accommodation check in and out processes.
- Understand the Surf Ranch property lines, easements etc.
- Understand the Surf Ranch security/ emergency evacuation plan.
- Knowledge and understanding of facility locations.
Experience and Qualifications
- Ability to resolve conflict when necessary
- Ability to activate the 911 system and request local law enforcement if necessary
- Ability to work different hours of the day including overnight shifts
- Basic Security training
- Prior Security experience preferred

The Surf Coach plays an integral role in guest safety and guest experience both in and out of the water at Surf Ranch. Under the direct supervision of the Surf Ranch Surf Team Lead, the Surf Coach will perform various duties at the Surf Ranch facility. This includes, but is not limited to, hosting video review sessions with an expert level ability to coach and critique all aspects of surfing from beginner to advanced and expert level live coaching in the water with guests. The Surf Coach will work directly with guests to provide them with the best possible surfing experience and progression during their time at Surf Ranch. The Surf Coach must have an expert level understanding of all ‘wave system’ operations, the Surf Ranch wave profiles offered, as well as all lifeguard duties as they pertain to emergency communication and response.
Responsibilities include (but not limited to):
- Instruct, advise, and assist guests with all surfing operations.
- Ensure the health, safety, and welfare of visitors.
- Maintain all surfing equipment such as boards, fins, leashes etc.
- Assist lifeguards in emergency medical aid and water response.
- Maintain training requirements.
- Maintain cleanliness and general upkeep of Surf Ranch facilities including the board room.
- Ensure all activities & operations are conducted in accordance with established procedures & policies.
- Enforce rules, safety regulations, and general facility rules.
- Provide in-water surf coaching at an advanced level in regards to the company’s surf coach program.
- Provide advanced level video analysis and coaching during feedback sessions following surfing activities in a manner consistent with the company’s coaching program.
- Coaching at an advanced level focusing on the specifics of one's surfing.
- Understand the ‘Surf Ranch Water Safety & Rescue Operations’.
- Understand the ‘Surf Ranch Wave System Theory of Operations’.
Qualifications
- Strong communication skills to communicate to staff during emergency response via hand signals and other communication protocols
- 10+ years of surfing experience
- Surf Ranch specific water safety training
- CPR/AED & First Aid Certified
- Previous surf lesson experience
- Advanced understanding of the standard of service at Surf Ranch
- Excellent hospitality skills and outgoing personality
- Ability to coach and critique advanced barrel riding
- Ability to coach and critique advanced rail-to-rail surfing
- Ability to coach critique all aspects of surfing through video review at an expert level
- Ability to recommend the proper equipment correctly based off of conversation
- Ability to assist any and all guests paddling into waves
- Have complete knowledge of all wave profiles offered at Surf Ranch
- Minimum 6 months previous experience at Surf Ranch
- Have all skills on the “Surf Coach Skills Checklist” mastered

Physical requirements
- Physically able to swim, swim in rough and deep water, walk, run, walk or run over rough or uneven surfaces, bend, stoop, lift, push, pull, and carry loads.
- Must be able to swim at least 550 yards, dive at least 10 feet deep, swim with a 10 pound object for at least 20 yards, and tread water for at least 2 minutes.
- Must be able to watch and supervise groups of students in the ocean and/or bay while coaching technique and supervising safety.
- Must be able to recognize and respond to emergencies and prevent injuries or drowning.
