We are looking for a talented, well-rounded candidate to oversee strategy and daily creation of content for the WSL’s highly engaged social channels. The Director, Social Media serves as a member of the Content department reporting to our Chief Community Officer. This role is vital to the development process, which includes working with various internal departments to package and deliver fresh content daily. Excellent video producing, editing (Adobe Premiere) and Photoshop skills are required.


Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Ideation, creation and management of WSL’s social programming channel strategy
  • Writing engaging copy that aligns with brand voice and tone
  • Creation and curation of high-quality assets for daily distribution on WSL’s social media channels
  • Real-time coverage of WSL events across WSL social channels
  • Generate community dialogue, buzz and interaction
  • Monitor posts on all WSL platforms and respond to users (if needed)
  • Help ideate and produce entertaining and viral social-first videos
  • Work collaboratively with editorial team to brainstorm ideas based on current events
  • Explore new social media platforms and initiatives to help grow consumer engagement and awareness
  • Work with the Content and Brand Marketing teams to develop an ongoing strategy and publishing calendar based on organizational objectives, community feedback and partnership fulfillment


  • 5+ years of social media experience - media, brand or sports experience highly preferred
  • Strong knowledge of current social media platform best practices
  • Must be detail-oriented
  • Expert knowledge of surfing and general popular culture
  • Experience producing and editing videos to tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated ability to think creatively, open to change and new ideas
  • Excellent writer, strong design sense
  • Experience with social media reporting and KPIs
  • Must be willing and able to work flexible hours, including late nights and weekends
  • Potential for extensive travel schedule
  • Ability to thrive in a high pressure environment
  • Possess excellent communications skills that allow for highly productive workflows between the Marcomms, Broadcast and Partnership departments
  • Active and passionate about social media: it’s not just something you know, but an integral part of your daily life
  • Knowledge/passion of surfing preferred
  • Must have proficiency in both Adobe Photoshop, Premiere and After Effects
