The Associate Field  Producer / Camera Operator will be skilled at the content creation techniques and storytelling methods that bring life to the world of competitive surfing, and will be responsible for daily content capture and light producing for Broadcast television and the World Surf League’s digital platforms. World Surf League field content will focus on telling our athlete’s stories in new and compelling ways as well as capturing an event from beginning to end with an emphasis on engaging our fans. This role reports directly into the VP, Broadcast and is an integral and essential member of the larger WSL Broadcast  team. This role will be working out of our US office located in Santa Monica, CA.

Responsibilities include (but not limited to):

  • Work as a key member of the Production field team to capture key moments on each of our live events for use in later television shows.
  • Identification and development of compelling story lines for core and aspirational fans.
  • Write scripts, clear footage and help produce and shoot features and long form projects.
  • Work with athletes and on-screen talent to “tell the story” of the tour.
  • Produce episodic video packages using content available from the World Surf League library, other contributing video partners and original productions.
  • Capture key moments and insights from the World Championship and Big Wave Tours.
  • Work closely with World Surf League’s live production and shared studio operations.
  • Capture and produce video to meet marketing and partnership requests as needed.
  • Remain current on industry and technological trends.
  • Fosters innovative solutions that maximize resources.
  • Take the lead with story line and content for Championship tour and deliver engaging content.
  • Available to travel for work consistently during non-traditional hours and on some weekends.

 Qualifications: 

  • Must be creative focused with the ability to see the technical challenges and the foresight to solve for those challenges early.
  • Well versed in surf culture and insatiable drive for storytelling.
  • Experience field producing live events with an emphasis on sports.
  • High degree of competence using video editing tools including Adobe Premiere. 
  • High degree of competence operating camera equipment of all kinds (RED preferred).
  • Comfortable and capable of managing people on your team
  • Ability to remain calm during stressful situations.
  • Ability to travel for extended periods of time – sometimes internationally – while on assignment.
  • Experience planning and writing rundowns for broadcast and studio content a plus.
  • Organized and detailed workflow skills are a must.
  • Experience working in a live event environment. 
  • Comfort working across global time zones.
  • Desire to work on diverse projects simultaneously and to shift gears on short notice.
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Communication, Broadcast or Liberal Arts
  • 1+ year of field producing experience and/or camera operation is preferred
