What does a Mobile QA Engineer do at Backbase?

The Backbase Mobile Banking Apps offer banking app solutions to millions of people around the world. As a Mobile QA Engineer you will make sure that the consolidated mobile apps are performing optimally on both the Android and iOS platforms. As an individual QA contributor within one of our development teams, you implement the test strategy and expand our test coverage on Android with Espresso, Kaspresso, and UiAutomator, while using XCUITest for iOS.

You will play a critical role in ensuring the optimal performance of our digital banking solutions, specifically focusing on payments products. As part of a collaborative native mobile development team, you'll be responsible for implementing testing strategies and tools, leading the automation efforts within the team as a shared responsibility, contributing to continuous delivery, and upholding our commitment to quality. You will play an important role on the shift from solely developing automation tests to designing and validating feature test cases.

Meet the job:

  • Designing and validating feature test cases to ensure comprehensive coverage of software features;
  • Collaborating with the team to ensure understanding of testing levels and where to apply test cases effectively;
  • Guiding the development team on effective testing methods and how to provide evidence of test outcomes;
  • Contributing to manual testing, writing automated tests, and exploratory testing as part of a shared team responsibility for both iOS and Android platforms;
  • Working closely with the Android and iOS engineering team. (We use Kotlin in Android and Swift in iOS);
  • Achieving high standards through comprehensive non-functional testing, including performance, scalability, and security assessments;
  • Advocating quality assurance within the team by taking ownership of the testing process and ensuring quality is not compromised;
  • Collaborating with the QA guild by identifying weaknesses and opportunities for improvement in our quality assurance processes;
  • Participating in team ceremonies such as sprint plannings, daily stand-ups and retrospectives.

How about you?

What you need to succeed:

  • You have more than 5 years experience in writing automation tests across both iOS & Android;
  • You have a deep comprehension of the Test Automation Pyramid (Unit test vs Integration Tests vs E2E Tests);
  • You have experience in writing tests using the Behavior-Driven Development (BDD) format;
  • You have an understanding of exploratory testing and when to apply it;
  • You have experience in working with Scrum teams in an Agile environment;
  • You are capable of identifying flaws in a current QA strategy and proposing a strategic plan to address them;
  • You have a proactive, self-driven attitude. You are ready to tackle challenges and to take initiative;
  • You have excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written;
  • You have a can-do mentality and you are willing to take up challenges.

Bonus: 

  • You possess strong leadership skills and are eager to take on small technical projects;
  • You have experience in working with clients, effectively addressing issues, and confidently presenting solutions to their problems.
