The Media Planner Resident contributes to overall client media plan development and stewardship while learning the basic fundamentals of the media and communications planning process. The Media Planner Resident assists the Media team in the development and execution of media plans, including gathering data/research, producing/maintaining support documents and tools, and assisting planning team in all communication efforts.

 

Major Responsibilities/Primary Functions

Researches and compiles competitive analysis to get a sense of where the competitors are advertising and how much they are spending

Studies demographic data and consumer profiles to identify desired target audiences for specific media vehicles, including lifestyles and psychographics, which can be used in developing media plans

Assists in developing agency point of views on media opportunities for submission to the client

Assists with the preparation, development, execution and monitoring of media plans; creates and maintains flowcharts/plans

Works with Media Planner and Media Supervisor to prepare estimates, insertion orders, buy specifications, and negotiates space reservations

Accurately tracks client media spending and maintains monthly budget reports

Checks invoices and resolves invoice/buy discrepancies

Conducts make-good negotiations with publications in case of errors

Checks print publications for proper positioning and ad reproduction

Reviews and evaluates pre-buy and post-buy analysis in order to help determine future buys

Assists with issuing RFPs (requests for proposals) to print publications

Manages client budget records

Develops and maintains strong working relationships with clients and vendors; meets with sales representatives to obtain information about their products

Maintains up-to-date knowledge of client’s business and individual product/campaign performance, prepares reports for client requests and opportunities as needed

Keeps current with market research (industry periodicals, newsletters, websites)

Attends status meetings when appropriate

Works on other projects as assigned

 

Qualifications, Distinguishing Characteristics and Special Requirements

Strong math and analytical skills

Proficient in Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Prior knowledge of Donovan Data Systems a plus but not required

A proven track record of gaining trust and respect by consistently demonstrating sound critical thinking skills and maintaining composure in stressful situations

Exceptional written, verbal and negotiation skills with the ability to communicate with all levels of employees, vendors and clients

Exceptional initiative and attention to detail

After hours work may be required
