Our mission

Otter is on a mission to create a world of care and opportunity by connecting parents who need childcare with stay-at-home parents who can care for their kids. Our goal is for every child to have access to safe, high-quality childcare and for every stay-at-home parent to be economically empowered in a way never before possible. Over the next ten years, Otter will facilitate millions of hours of childcare and unlock billions of new economic opportunities for stay-at-home parents.

Otter is growing quickly!

Otter’s growth has surpassed our most optimistic expectations: Otter is live in two cities, growing quickly, and we have more demand than we can keep up with. We’re building a category-defining, technology driven solution that works for today’s families in the $75B childcare category. Otter has attracted more than $27M from leading venture investors and angels, including Sequoia Capital, Andreessen Horowitz, Abstract Ventures, Thrive Capital, and a diverse set of world-class operators including Kevin & Julia Hartz, Michael Ovitz, Dylan Field, Scott Belsky, Maran Nelson, Hunter Horsley, Backend Capital, Varsha Rao, Jana Messerschmidt, Claire Hughes Johnson, Jessica Verrilli, Sarah Nahm, Stephen Chau, Marc Hedlund, and Shreya and Anand Iyer.

The role

As the earliest member of the marketing team, you will have the opportunity to build Otter’s marketing strategy from the ground up. You will own all aspects of the marketing process and will develop and implement a marketing strategy for the launch of each of Otter’s new markets, emphasizing early testing and iteration so that we can build a repeatable marketing playbook. You will also lead our efforts to retain and engage users and reduce churn. As Otter grows, you will assist in building out the marketing team that will further propel its growth.

What you'll do

  • Create and implement Otter’s marketing plan by translating our unique value proposition  into strategic marketing efforts.
  • Manage paid campaigns, including setting up accounts, creating campaigns from scratch, A/B testing, optimizing assets and targeting, managing the budgets and pacing for campaigns, and ensuring all digital marketing activities are tagged and tracked appropriately.
  • Collaborate with the market operations team to:
    • define critical metrics
    • develop internal and external campaign performance dashboards and reports
    • make recommendations for campaign improvements
    • share key findings across the organization
    • co-create the go-to-market plan for new markets
  • Establish organic awareness and chart the path to grow and accelerate social channels, organic search, and other organic impressions.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally to develop campaign assets including ad copy, images, video, content, landing pages, and member stories. Identify, screen, and manage external contractors who can help us create creative collateral when needed. Where creative support doesn’t exist, develop and execute content for relevant channels.

What you're great at

  • Owning all aspects of marketing, learning quickly, and being both strategic and tactical — you can zoom out to think about marketing metrics and performance, and are excited to get your hands dirty to execute when needed.
  • Understanding how to experiment across marketing channels until you find the right mix, including setting up, testing, and scaling new channels.
  • Coming up with new ideas and concepts, then turning them into executable campaigns while prioritizing them against a finite amount of resources.
  • Balancing a variety of priorities simultaneously, with strong attention to detail.
  • Working in major self-service ad platforms like Google Ads and Facebook to run and monitor ads, and having familiarity with Google Analytics (Hubspot a plus).

Who you are

  • You believe care work is real work.
  • You have superior communication skills, including the ability to prioritize and efficiently and transparently communicate results at a team, executive, and company level.
  • You’re willing to talk about your work in writing so you can contribute to a company culture where we learn from one another, so we can learn faster together.
  • You have attention to detail and thrive in a fast-moving environment.
  • People who know you would call you a team player with a desire to jump in and be “hands on” as needed.
  • You embrace Otter's values and operating principles.

Please apply even if you don't meet 100% of the criteria above. Nobody checks every box every time and we'd love to talk to you about how and why you can see yourself growing into this role. We're also very open to candidates with non-traditional experience, especially those who have taken time out of the traditional workforce to care for their children or other loved ones.

Voluntary Self-Identification of Disability

Why are you being asked to complete this form?

We are a federal contractor or subcontractor required by law to provide equal employment opportunity to qualified people with disabilities. Identifying yourself as an individual with a disability is voluntary, and we hope that you will choose to do so. Your answer will be maintained confidentially and not be seen by selecting officials or anyone else involved in making personnel decisions. Completing the form will not negatively impact you in any way, regardless of whether you have self-identified in the past.
