Not all heroes wear capes — but plenty of them use toilet paper
Want to challenge yourself at a high-growth startup AND make a difference in the world? Come join the revolootion!
Funny name, serious business
We make eco-friendly products and donate 50% of our profits to help build toilets for the billions of people who lack proper access. So far, we’ve contributed over $10 million AUD (roughly $7.4 million USD) to fund water and sanitation projects around the globe. Basically, we’re really good at doing good.
With hubs in Australia, the Philippines, China, the US, UK and Europe, our ambitious team of 170+ work tirelessly to make the biggest possible impact for people and the planet. Over the next couple of years, we’re working to increase our annual donation tenfold and we won’t rest until everyone in the world has access to clean water and sanitation services.
A bit about the role
As our family has grown, our plug-ins, apps, and tools have increased, as well as the call for team support & collaboration. We’re looking for a tech geek to help continue with our mission to enable, unlock and boost the productivity of all functions across the business.
As a Internal Tech Support, you will play a key role in supporting our day-to-day essential operations, administration and management within the internal IT team. Reporting to the Internal Tech Expert, you will use your technical expertise to contribute to our project-based infrastructure design, build and configuration within an entirely cloud-based environment.
You’ll be part of a small but mighty team working flexibly to support incidents and changes in alignment with business priorities. Some exciting things you’ll roll your sleeves up to:
- Support the roll out of our Global IT Hardware and endpoint security plans
- Become a master of our cross functional and supporting core infrastructure tooling. We love everything about Google Workspace!
- You’ll start learning the basics of Linux and dig around its command line with relative ease.
This is a unique opportunity to work in a high-growth startup while applying your skills and expertise to a meaningful cause. You’re practically an ‘Open Door- Go To’ support hero for our team with the ability to unlock the majority of internal tech issues. Moreover, you’ll be part of a team with the coolest name, “Ops Squad” where the team gets to work with every single person across the entire organisation to enable and support them to do the best work they can in the most frictionless way you know.
Our Ops Squad spans across Australia and the Philippines but this time we'd love to get some extra hands to support our UK team. We’re open to amazing candidates from Australia or the Philippines or the UK as long as you're up for working remotely and aligning yourself to the UK time zone.
If you worked here this past month here are some things you might have been involved in:
- Responded and actioned system and user queries or IT-related issues that come through Slack and Freshservice.
- Became our change champion in how we encourage and redirect our users to smoothly transition and adopt using our IT service management tool.
- Begin building a service catalogue to help direct our teams for specific requests and bulked this out with a centralised list of IT services essential to our teams. This also means you’ve built the necessary automation and workflows in it.
- Begin building an FAQs page to help improve our team’s user experience and provide quick information reducing the time needed to answer simple questions.
- Assisted with the offboarding process and onboarding of new users e.g. setting up accounts.
- Maintained computer systems and sprang into action if any system goes down.
- Kept up-to-date the inventory of all equipment, software, and licence users.
- Has introduced yourself to Legal, Ops, P&C, Finance, and other functions for future collabs and projects.
- Deep dive into the design and build of new automation using the tools available within the Google Cloud Platform
- Brushing up on your coding skills (or just learning how) to help with the rebuild of the Crapboard
Let’s talk about you
You may or may not have worked in “IT” in the past but one thing is for sure, you’re not afraid to get your hands dirty, try - and repeatedly fail, research research research and absorb IT knowledge like a sponge. All while maintaining the patience of an angel and having a genuine love for helping and supporting people around you.
You’re a natural translator of technobabble - able to walk the fine line between educating users and not overwhelming people. Although you’ll find yourself spending a good portion of your time learning, tinkering, troubleshooting and building new things, you also yearn to interact with people regularly, especially with the team members who use and depend on the apps and software that we manage. You are able to clearly communicate technical matters in a digestible and engaging manner. You know how to ask the right questions to narrow down an issue and be adept in understanding the user’s concerns as they might not know the proper terminology to describe a problem.
Automation is your best friend
You love problem-solving and are a natural tinkerer who often plays around with or leverages automation to save your resources, effort, and time. You love testing technology, researching, and planning before committing to any of it.
You’re proactive and adaptable
No two days are the same. Some days will be spent working with end-users (team members) to resolve countless small problems while other days will be spent on project-based tasks and future planning.
You’re a voracious learner
Technology is ever-changing. You might be confronted with new problems hence, you see the need to adapt and evolve so you must have a passion for autonomously seeking new knowledge, acquiring new skills, and learning new technologies.
You deliver and delight
You are humble and have a strong desire to help and provide exemplary service to our internal customers. No problem is too big or too small. In your projects and initiatives, you try to keep a strong focus on the end-users or team’s experience.
You give a crap
Do you want your work to make the world a better place? Do you want to work with other people who feel the same way? What a coincidence — us too!
Why should you work with us?
First off, as a certified B Corp™, we work to make a difference every day while maintaining the highest standards of social and environmental impact. With our most recent score of 125.5 we’re in very good company with other exceptional B Corps around the world.
We also believe that helping to make the world a better place should be rewarded accordingly – that’s why we offer competitive, market informed salaries, meaningful support towards healthcare, wellbeing and mental fitness of our team around the world, generous paid leave, tailored learning and development opportunities, and free toilet paper (yes, you read that right).
Our engagement surveys (thanks Culture Amp!) tell us that 98% of our team are proud to work for Who Gives A Crap and, well, we couldn’t be more proud of that.
Have you made it this far?
If you’re still reading, we think there’s a strong chance you might be our kind of person. Here’s the thing, though — research suggests that 60% of women and underrepresented folks might have already talked themselves out of applying. Even if you don’t check every box above, we want to encourage you to introduce yourself. We believe a diversity of perspectives and experiences makes a team stronger — and the stronger our team, the closer we are to delivering toilets and clean water for all.
