Our television department at Westbrook Studios is hiring a Vice President, Scripted Business Affairs to be responsible for negotiating script development, series, writer/producer and other talent related agreements on behalf of Westbrook Studios in connection with scripted programming, including, but not limited to, negotiations related to the following: third-party script development agreements; license agreements; international co-production agreements; writer/producer, performer and other talent deals; co-productions; product integrations; music and digital media. 

 

In this role, you will: 

  • Structure, negotiate, document and manage the studio’s transactions to engage above-the-line talent (writers, producers, directors and actors), acquire underlying rights, and license the studio’s content to a diverse buyer set (including broadcast, basic and pay cable, and streaming platforms).
  • Partner with relevant internal executives (especially creative and production teams) to support the on-going production of current series.
  • Coordinate regular and effective communication between studios executives and outside legal counsel concerning deal negotiation and business strategy.
  • Collaborate with internal and external parties to get long-form agreements signed on a timely basis.
  • Interface with Westbrook Media in connection with the exploitation of studio content to ensure optimal windowing and/or marketing of studio content globally.
  • Establish a system for tracking contractual options for properties and talent, payments, and deal summaries, and partner with production and accounting teams to maintain on an ongoing basis. 
  • Establish department “best practices” and contribute towards improving deal parameters, deal memo templates, and departmental processes and procedures.

Qualifications / Requirements: 

  • 7-10 years experience as a business affairs executive for a television studio or network.
  • Proven track record as a skilled negotiator and deal-maker, with strong drafting abilities.
  • Familiarity with Unscripted TV and Theatrical deal flow a plus, but not required
  • Exceptional communication skills (written and verbal), and creative problem-solving abilities.
  • Knowledge of guild and union agreements, contracts, and intellectual property law.
  • Ability to work independently within a team-oriented environment and have a commitment to learning and excellence.
  • Exceptional organizational, prioritization and time management skills with the ability to execute against multiple, high-priority projects, with a keen attention to detail.
  • Demonstrated track record of holding to the highest degree of honesty and integrity.
  • CA bar membership preferred but not required
