About the role

As the Director of Food Safety and Compliance, you will lead and drive food safety and regulatory compliance across all Weee! operational sites. Your role is to ensure adherence to established laws, regulations, and company policies and procedures. You will act as a functional expert with strong leadership capabilities, supporting the company’s strategic and tactical initiatives.

Responsibilities 

Strategic Leadership and Development:

  • Develop and implement company-wide food safety goals, objectives, policies, and priorities across all regions.
  • Establish and manage comprehensive food safety and quality programs and procedures in compliance with federal, state, and local food safety regulations.
  • Lead the strategic development of food safety and quality initiatives, ensuring alignment with the company’s overall business goals.

Regulatory Compliance and Oversight:

  • Ensure compliance with all relevant food safety laws and standards at operational sites.
  • Manage regulatory compliance issues, including inspections and investigations, and develop strategies for effective resolution.
  • Lead the creation, filing, and maintenance of all regulatory permits and licensing required for various product categories and business models.

Operational Support and Improvement:

  • Oversee the implementation of food quality programs at fulfillment and distribution centers, including sanitation, chemical control, GMP, temperature controls, pest control, recall processes, cross-contamination prevention, internal audits, and supplier management.
  • Develop and oversee the Foreign Supplier Verification Programs and regulatory aspects of direct importation.

Stakeholder Engagement and Collaboration:

  • Maintain active relationships with government agencies and participate in regulatory meetings at local and state levels.
  • Collaborate with departments such as Operations, Merchandise, Process Engineering, Product Engineering, Customer Service, and Legal to address deficiencies, improve operational processes, and enhance customer satisfaction.

Data Analysis and Continuous Improvement:

  • Supervise the statistical analysis of complaint data to identify issues and potential risks.
  • Lead corrective actions to continuously improve product quality, safety, and vendor performance.

Team Development and Training:

  • Develop and manage a food safety team to achieve company food safety, quality, and regulatory objectives.
  • Identify and develop new training materials to support operations and merchandise teams in implementing world-class food safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health, environmental sanitation, microbiology, food science/technology, or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience managing Food Safety and Quality in large-scale distribution centers or manufacturing environments.
  • Extensive knowledge and experience in HACCP, USDA, or FDA regulations.
  • Proven track record of resolving food safety issues in restaurants, retailers, distribution centers, or suppliers.
  • Excellent project management, process improvement, organizational, planning, and interpersonal skills.
  • High attention to detail and superior organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in communicating complex concepts, systems, and procedures in a training environment.
  • Proficient in MS Office suite of programs.

Compensation Range

  • The US base salary range for this full-time position is $145,000-$175,000
  • This role may be eligible to discretionary bonus, incentives and benefits 
  • Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location
