Staff Site Reliability Engineer (Remote)
Overview:
The Staff Site Reliability Engineer combines software and systems engineering to guide the architecture and development of resilient, scalable CI/CD and Kubernetes infrastructure platform, as well evangelizing the effective use of observability and telemetry tooling in our applications. The Staff SRE ensures that Weedmaps internal and customer facing services are architected to offer reliability, resilience, and reasonable uptime and performance expectations.
The Staff SRE will work closely with the Infrastructure and Application Development teams to help shape the tooling pipelines at Weedmaps, and reduce the friction of developing and deploying production ready code to Weedmaps infrastructure. A Staff SRE is an effective engineering leader that can lead across technical domains to achieve Weedmaps goals, with accuracy and agility.
The impact you'll make:
- Collaborate with leadership and engineering teams to design and build technical solutions across the Weedmaps ecosystem
- Work in a service oriented architecture spanning multiple domains and technology stacks.
- Drive critical path towards completing major company initiatives.
- Subject matter expert in specific vertical i.e. Payments, Logistics, E-Commerce, Ads
- Subject matter expert in 1 or more technologies or patterns used at Weedmaps.
- Mentor and train engineers across Weedmaps Engineering.
- Build long term technical strategies that align with Weedmaps’s business plan and influence the overall technical direction.
- Act as an ambassador for the organization at technology conferences and events.
- Develop architectures that are secure, scalable, robust, modular, API-centric and global.
- Support the application lifecycle (concept, design, test, release and support) following established development, documentation, testing and deployment processes.
- Proactive in identifying technology challenges at the organizational level.
- Write proposals with backing documentation including business case, architecture/solution diagrams, and development timeline.
- Provide technical direction for the overarching Weedmaps’s technology stack including Terraform, Docker, Kubernetes, CI/CD, AWS
What you've accomplished:
- 10+ years of Site Reliability/ DevOps and/or Software Engineering experience with 3+ years of SaaS architectural experience in high-growth engineering organizations.
- Ability to demonstrate extremely high levels of technical knowledge, spanning System architecture, Frontend, Backend, Mobile, Devops.
- Proven ability to give effective presentations to management, executives, and cross-functional teams.
- Broad knowledge of distributed systems design.
- Broad knowledge of performance testing patterns for microservices.
- Broad knowledge of observability and telemetry patterns and technologies.
- Experience identifying operational toil and producing automations to remedy toil.
- Experience with scalable architecture and clean coding practices.
- Experience working in an e-commerce space building applications and technology to engage consumers and foster growth.
- Exposure to integrations and design, cloud based technologies, and latest mobile architectures
- Effective and persuasive communication skills at all levels of management and engineers, both written and verbal.
- Experience working collaboratively at a high level with other teams within an organization.
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or equivalent degree / work experience
