We are looking for an experienced engineering leader to oversee SEO Engineering, drive customers to our landing pages and work closely with stakeholders to build the tools to monitor and measure our performance. This is a highly impactful role with preliminary forecasts indicating that the way in which search engines consider our pages discoverable could draw significant revenue to Wayfair.

Responsibilities also include building a strong team through effective hiring, mentoring, and training, partnering closely with Product teams to develop the team’s vision, roadmap, and quarterly OKRs, running indexes and algorithms, effectively managing technical debt, coaching technical architects to develop the long-term vision for the platform, and working with software and infrastructure stakeholders across the engineering organization.

What you’ll do:

  • Function as a strong people manager who can orient, tune and an engineering team
  • Make build vs. buy decisions; we track our own info and buy some from third parties
  • Work closely with our Storefront Find team which is crafting the next generation shopping experience
  • Create the technical strategic vision, both short-term and long-term for your team.
  • Provide roadmaps and milestones / KPI's
  • Function as a leader of leaders providing support and career growth while also attracting new talent
  • Ensure that accurate information is available to make high level architecture and technology decisions.
  • Identify points where the product and engineering roadmaps don’t align
  • Provide technical guidance and mentorship

What you’ll need:

  • 10+ years industry experience with at least 8 years in a software engineering leadership role
  • SEO/Search Engine Optimization experience is preferred
  • Strong history of building engineering teams, ideally with rapid innovation and product release
  • Demonstrated technical leadership capability (code reviews, scrum, etc.)
  • Track record of individual contribution within engineering - even from leadership positions
  • Experience with Natural Language Processing and Information Retrieval preferred
  • Experience in relational database (MS SQL or similar) schema design, optimization and architecture
  • Notable experience running high volume data processing systems at scale
  • Demonstrated ability to make and execute platform level technical decisions
  • Comfortable working in a collaborative, fast-paced and dynamic work environment
  • Entrepreneurial spirit and desire to build
  • Ability to think and perform both tactically and strategically
  • Excellent analytical skills with demonstrated experience turning data into actionable insights
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills at the senior leadership level
  • Deep understanding of Product/Engineering partnership
  • Ability to multi-task and work well within a dynamic, fast-paced organization
  • Positive, people-oriented, and energetic attitude
  • Strong academic record preferred
