Resiliency engineer

We’re looking for an experienced resiliency engineer to join our Development Platform teams and be part of an innovative, passionate group dedicated to making development an enjoyable experience. In this role you will be responsible for driving resiliency and stability improvements of various applications, the architecture and integrations to ensure optimal end user experience by working closely with Application development, SRE, Database and Data analysis teams. You will plan, design, implement and execute resiliency experiments on production systems in a controlled manner in order to improve the system’s availability by identifying and eliminating outages before they manifest during peak hours or the holiday season. You will drive the design and development of automated tests to inject faults and provide the right set of tuning knobs for finer control of the blast radius to minimize customer impact and clearly define the short term negative impact on the systems by working with our Operations teams. You will also help articulate the cost-benefit analysis of these exercises and educate other teams on best practices regarding resiliency testing, teach them to execute on your designs, help them leverage both internal and external tools to optimize their code and infrastructure. You are among those who work quickly to resolve high impact, challenging, engineering problems while continuously raising the standard of quality, performance and reliability in our applications and infrastructure.

What You'll Do

  • Collaborate with team leads and other architects to develop end to end resiliency engineering strategies and approaches
  • Help create Failure as a service (FaaS) platform for widespread adoption by all engineering teams
  • Design resiliency testing experiments that can be executed through the platform by collaborating with software and infrastructure teams to determine failure scenarios
  • Provide technical recommendations for system performance measurement and analysis, defensive coding strategies, scalable architecture and profiling/troubleshooting techniques
  • Demonstrate outstanding communication, flexibility, teamwork and leadership

What You'll Need

  • At least 8 years of experience working as a SWE/SRE/Performance engineer
  • 5+ years of experience with high-traffic, large-scale distributed systems, stream-processing platforms, client-server architectures, cloud DevOps (Kubernetes)
  • Solid understanding of On Prem to Cloud evolution as well as hands on experience working with public cloud (GCP/AWS)
  • Understanding of software architecture to help software developers to leverage the platform with reliability
  • Strong Linux fundamentals
  • Software automation development skills (at least one) – Python, GO, Java, Ruby, C# or PHP
  • Deep understanding of web technology stack (HTTP, REST, HTML, JavaScript, CSS etc)
  • Experience with SQL databases and performance monitoring tools
  • Infrastructure as code toolsets - Puppet, Terraform, Packer, Consul, Vault and CI/CD tooling
