WSC is seeking a Director of Structural Engineering to collaborate with designers, planners, project managers, and technical leaders in the structural design of vital water, recycled water, and infrastructure investments. This is an exciting opportunity to lead the company’s continued growth for the structural engineering practice by leading structural design for project teams, managing design standards, and mentoring junior staff.
The position can be based out of our seven offices: San Luis Obispo, San Diego, Ontario, Temecula, Laguna Hills, Folsom, and Portland OR with a flexible hybrid work option. This position may require some travel throughout California and Oregon.
What You Will Do
- You provide structural design for multi-disciplinary project teams for successful delivery of water infrastructure design, specifications, and cost estimates for medium to large scale wastewater and/or recycled water systems.
- Provide a vision for growing WSC’s structural engineering practice, including quality and knowledge management, continually improving internal resources, structural standards updates and development, training, and engaging in industry associations and research.
- Mentor junior/mid-level professionals.
- Help facilitate recruitment and growth for WSC’s structural engineering practice.
- Preparation of high-quality written work products including design drawings, specifications, technical memoranda, technical reports and contract documents.
- Collaborate with WSC teams to utilize strengths and identify opportunities to gain additional skills for the staff/company.
What You Bring
- Master’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering or related engineering field.
- Licensed California CE or SE, SE preferred.
- Working knowledge of wastewater industry standards and regulations as they pertain to wastewater treatment facilities.
- Experience delivering successful and collaborative project performance that achieves clients’ goals, including cost-effective, sustainable, operator-friendly, and innovative valuable outcomes.
- 10+ years of experience in design of wastewater and/or recycled water facilities.
- Demonstration of understanding and defining project goals and requirements.
- Team first mindset. You enjoy collaborating, learning, teaching, and are active in creating a positive team dynamic.
- Desire to operate with freedom and accountability. A willingness to embrace innovation to solve complex project/client challenges.
- Strong communication skills, including experience with scope and fee development, technical memoranda, reports, drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
- Ability to serve as a dedicated client service partner and demonstrate responsiveness, clear communication, quality delivery, mindful listening, and problem-solving skills.
- Enthusiasm about mentoring and advocating within our team.
Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $150,000 - $210,000 annually and may be more or less depending on experience.
