Warby Parker is looking for a Senior Counsel to join our close-knit Legal team, report to our General Counsel, and own a variety of legal matters. In this role, you’ll advise the People team on a broad range of employment law issues that may arise across Warby Parker’s offices and stores. You’ll also assist the General Counsel in managing litigation, developing a compliance program, advising business clients on regulatory matters, drafting and negotiating contracts, and researching applicable laws and regulations. While our ideal candidate is able to serve as an in-house generalist, a strong background in labor and employment will set you up for success in this role. We’ll also count on you to work on dozens of assignments simultaneously and provide practical, clear, and concise advice to each department at Warby Parker. Think you’ve got the goods? Read on!


What you’ll do:

  • Provide day-to-day counseling and advice to the People team across a variety of areas, such as employee relations, dispute resolution, leaves of absence and accommodations, wage and hour issues, internal investigations, and compensation and benefits
  • Partner with the People and Retail teams on store openings and, if needed, closings and reductions in force
  • Assist the General Counsel in managing federal and state employment-related litigation and investigations and other matters
  • Assist the Legal team in developing Warby Parker’s compliance program, including policy and training documents in the areas of healthcare compliance and commercial transactions, data privacy, HIPAA, and records retention
  • Counsel colleagues on a host of legal questions about contract interpretation, regulatory compliance, patent protection, tariffs and trade, and more
  • Review, draft, and negotiate a wide variety of contracts (e.g., technology vendors, marketing vendors, supply chain agreements)
  • Improve internal forms


Who you are:

  • An attorney with a JD, admission to a state bar, and 4–6 years of relevant in-house or top-firm experience
  • Equipped with extensive knowledge of labor and employment law
  • Able to draft and negotiate complex commercial agreements
  • Confident in handling tasks and answering questions that you’ve never faced
  • Capable of assessing both legal and business risks
  • A skillful drafter and issue-spotter
  • A clear communicator who’s extremely organized and detail-oriented
  • Collaborative, friendly, flexible, and eager to learn about all facets of our business


Extra credit:

  • Experience representing retail and/or emerging-growth companies
  • Experience in developing compliance policies and programs
  • An interest in lobbying and industry and government affairs
