SUMMARY:

The Proposal Writer Intern will be exposed and gain experience in a variety of content writing, editing and print production with opportunities to sharpen writing skills for various proposal content, such as technical narratives, case studies and success stories for engaging, creative written material.

This position is a temporary, part-time paid position of employment and is typically filled during the student’s semester of school. School credit may or may not be granted depending on the school’s criteria for determining credit.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Content Writing and Editing: writing compelling, strategic content for use in custom proposals. Assist with the writing and editing of supporting content. This could include assisting with proposal assets and exhibits, including narratives, staff resumes, organizational charts, headshots, presentations, case studies, success stories, customer referrals, client testimonials, footprint maps, etc.
  • Proofreading/Copy Editing: assisting with the preparation/finalization of proposal documents, including proofing for grammar/spelling, proposal accuracy, layout, etc.
  • Proposal and Presentation Production: assisting with proposal production, including finalization of PDF documents, binder printing and production, presentation handouts and production, etc. This may include helping to maintain inventory of proposal production supplies.
  • Research and Content Capture: interviewing subject matter experts and field personnel to gather/capture information for use in proposals.
  • Data and Content Management: assist with the publishing and management of the proposal content library, including publishing new/updated content to the proposal library, saving/presenting information gathered from SMEs, and helping to ensure that the customer relationship management system is up to date.
  • Data Management: interpret reports to write/enhance content, exposure to or use of database tools, use of project management tools, and support with data entry/management (as needed).

Business Development Activities (as needed): assist with material for presentations, trade shows and other BD activities. This may include training materials.

QUALIFICATIONS:
• Completed or working toward a college degree, preferably in a related field, e.g., Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing.
• Excellent writing, editing and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
• Self-motivated, good organizational skills, detail-oriented, ability to prioritize, multi-task and meet deadlines.
• Previous internship or related experience in marketing or communications is a plus.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:
The Marketing Intern is a student currently enrolled in an accredited institution of higher education and is pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Communications, English, Journalism, Marketing or related degree.

LANGUAGE SKILLS:
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations using the English language. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, and percentages. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry

REASONING ABILITY:
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

COMPUTER SKILLS:
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have knowledge of Contact Management systems; Database software; Internet software; Order processing systems; Spreadsheet software, and Word Processing software.
